Reuse damper oil?

Recommended Posts

Just curious - is it common to reuse damper oil?

Not really (years) old oil, but say when trying out the different weights...

I don't because its always dirty when i change it. It would probably be fine to if you are changing it, quick test away from dirt and then changing it straight away while its still clean, but you also run the risk of contaminating your bottle of oil this way. Dampers hold a few mls so its probably not worth trying to save it.

I do exactly as Jonathan says; if i am playing with shock tunes i will pour oil back out of the damper into the bottle if i have done one run and it's not right. Much morr than that and i don't as it's always a bit dirty. Only exception is old dampers. Pretty much all my buggies are on modern dampers i have built from new, but a couple i picked up rectly have vintage CVA which despite best effort to clean tjem, still make the new oil a little cloudy the moment it goes in. I don't have an ultrasonic cleaner though.
