lowspot 299 Posted July 26, 2019 Couldn't resist to buy this beauty, I have owned a Raybrig NSX 2004 with TB02 chassis before but sold it for my move to Australia Since then I was always looking for the right opportunity, not just a standard TB-02 - I was looking for something better and not so common - TB-02 with parts from TB-02R. It's gone be a Hop Up orgy with titanium screws and the ridiculous expensive ball differentials parts ( one way front and TB EVO III parts at rear) Installed Hop Ups: #49368 TB02 BLUE Aluminum Motor Mount #49366 TB02R Carbon Battery Plate #49365 TB02R Rear Carbon Brace Set #49364 TB02R Front Carbon Brace Set #53677 TB02 Stabilizer Set #Light weight Propeller shaft It's hard to find original Tamiya parts for these old TB chassis but here and there are a few on ebay and my plan is to finish it before Christmas, so heaps of time :-) Wanted parts: #TB-02R Drive Shafts (at watch list) #Reversible Lightweight Suspension Set (at watch list) #Fluorine Coated Damper (ordered from Japan) # Titanium Screw Set (ordered from Hong Kong) This's the starting point. The actual plan is to use it with my brand new ARTA NSX 2005 body kit but I'm in Tokyo at the beginning of August and I definitely stop for a visit at the Tamiya store. I have also ordered TB Evo III front and rear damper stays and the original blue aluminium steering set. http:// http:// http:// http://
ThunderDragonCy 7777 Posted July 27, 2019 That is so nice. I don't know much about them, but there is something lovely about these early TB's. I shall be following this with interest. I didn't realise there was a lightweight reversible arm set. The reversible arms from the TA05/FF03/TRF416 era are still readily available. Don't know if they would fit though.
lowspot 299 Posted July 27, 2019 The particular set is for TA05/TB02/TA04 - I'll check the TA05 TFR416 - might be compatible. The TB02 is just a great chassis with a simple drive train but with all the nice gadgets from the EVO like ball differential and full adjustable for a propper racing setup. On top of this, they are pretty rare now
svenb 3735 Posted July 27, 2019 I built a tb02r a few years ago, found every hop up for it, cost about 3x the cost of the kit🙄
svenb 3735 Posted July 27, 2019 Are you using the Tamiya titanium screws?
svenb 3735 Posted July 27, 2019 👍 I'll check my spares when I get back, may have a few bits for a 02r

lowspot 299 Posted July 30, 2019 I have ordered parts from Japan today: #42273 TRF Short Damper hard black coating (will use the Fluorine Coated ones, that I ordered 2 few days ago, for my next project) #50454 Set Racing Slick Tire 26mm #53113 Inner Sponge Set for tires #53628 2 x TB EVO III upper arm mount #50980 Suspension mount A 4 x HPI wheel TE37 black +3mm offset and a mega cool carbon fiber tail wing with adjustable aluminium support. I'm flying to Japan on Friday and I have managed to stay near the Tamiya store. My Japanese buddy is also showing me some RC shops and I hope to find a Raybrig 2003 or 2004 NSX body kit for this chassis. In the meantime I have finished my new 2005 ARTA NSX body kit for my TL01 speedrun chassis -this plus tires are only for at home while the chassis is heavily used The shape of the body kit that I'm looking for is almost similar but with different color and decals. This is the one that I had to sell in January this year :-( https://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=132710&id=49348 http://
ThunderDragonCy 7777 Posted July 30, 2019 Just remembered the part number for the arms i was talking aboit 51297. TA05-IFS Reversible Arms D Parts. Not lightweight though. Tjose appear to 51104,which are still readily available. The only thibg that isn't available is the full 53899 Lightweight Suspension Set which includes all suspension parts. Depending on what you want to do with this, if these 51297 were the original arms anything up to the latest TRF419XR arms will fit.

I have just realized that parts of the drive shafts are missing in #53899 - there is another set #53794 and that is suitable for TB02 & TA04 and contain the whole shafts
Tizer 604 Posted August 11, 2019 Cool project! You should keep an eye out for the blue lightweight propshaft from Tamiya. It was a hopup for the TB evo 3 and TB02 and it will suit the look of your build really well.
lowspot 299 Posted August 12, 2019 Have started to disassemble the chassis today. There is not a lot remaining from the old TB02. I have managed to find all parts to make it a real TB02R incl. all available Hop ups. I could easily have bought a TB evo III for the money that I have sent on spare parts but this is somehow a very nice version of the TB chassis and it is the first time that I have found a "R" version. They were race chassis and most of them are used for exactly that. I assume, that there are not many good ones left :-) anyway. This one was build many years ago with some "R" parts but never used. The diff joints are a weak point on the TB02 series and I 'll replace them by the reinforced TB evo III ones. This is what's left, anything else will be new, mainly aluminium or carbon reinforced. All screws are Tamiya titanium ones, bought from the Tamiya shop in Tokyo.

I have a lightweight propeller shaft but not a blue one - btw: your TB evo III is outstanding !
Tizer 604 Posted August 12, 2019 If I spot another in Japan I'll let you know. I often buy my stuff from Yahoo Auctions
lowspot 299 Posted August 12, 2019 that's a good source - with my new google translator app no problem to read Japanese in realtime. Thats awesome !
lowspot 299 Posted August 13, 2019 I have cleaned the ball bearings with WD40 and re-assembled the ball differentials. http:// http:// With the new titanium screws everything comes together very smooth and it looks so much better than the old Phillips head screws. http:// Damper stays from TB EVO III. I have ordered a set blue aluminium ball nuts and I think I'll replace the black ones on the tie rod holder. Same with the plastic spacers underneath, I'm waiting for blue Aluminium spacers and they for sure are looking better. http:// http:// So far so good . . . .
lowspot 299 Posted August 14, 2019 It wasn't my intension to build today but the major update has arrived and I couldn't resist to open the box and suddenly I had a screw driver in my hand . . . The "Reversible Lightweight Suspension Set" These are the parts of the original TB-02R kit. The only difference is that these ones are carbon reinforced. Optional there are two sets of hub carriers, one with 4° and one with 2°. These parts are suggested hop ups for the original kit as well. Together with the new drive shafts it is a proper "R" model now :-) Even The TB EVO III doesn't have that upgrade. The universal drive shafts haven't arrived yet but there is still enough to do in the meantime. original TB02 arms and the new TA05 carbon reinforced above The titanium screws are looking so much better . . . . [/URL] Progress for today: fitted the aluminium steering, drive shaft installed and frond and rear arms installed. I have no idea about the body kit. The recommended one is a Raybrig NSX 2004 but no one on that planet is selling one right now. . . .
lowspot 299 Posted August 15, 2019 Stabilisers mounted and carbon decks installed. All comes together quite nicely. Now I have to wait for the missing parts. Universal drive shafts are stuckin in customs and some screws and bites and bites are on a ship from Japan . . . Tomorrows work is to assemble the damper and to check whether they fit to the chassis - I might swap them with the ones from my red ARTA NSX. They are slightly longer. lowspot 299 Posted August 17, 2019 I have pre mounted the dampers today. They fit perfect, no need for the upgrade set. The recommended motor is the SS RZ or TZ but I think the BZ ist just right :-) I'll replace all ball nuts and plastic spacer with aluminium ones and even the servo mount is blue. The battery connector needs to be black - orange doesn't fit. I know that there are far better chassis on the market but this one was always one of my favourites and I probably don't even cover it with a body kit and display it under plexi glass cover.#
svenb 3735 Posted August 17, 2019 Great build mate 👍 Seeing that your keeping it all 'Tamiya' are you fitting Tamiya electrics? Sven
lowspot 299 Posted August 17, 2019 Hi mate, thanks ! I'm using a TSU-05 Tamiya servo but the ESC will be a 1060 Hobbywing and the radio is a Futaba. I'll try to keep it as Tamiya as possible but the HW ESC is so much better than the Tamiya ones.
lowspot 299 Posted August 17, 2019 Thanks, now I need blue turnbuckles :-D - looks superb! Is that a Tamiya ESC? What motor are you running?
