Sunday stroll - down memory lane ...

Recommended Posts

They may not come around that often gents but today has been a brief chance to put family first then enjoy reminding myself how things used to be in our hobby 😊

And it was so much fun, I wondered if everyone occasionally felt similar ?

So - how about a regular stroll down memory lane each Sunday ?

I’ll start with some superb pics from July 1990 / Radio Model Cars magazine that I’ve re-read today ...

And a few thoughts:

Kyosho were always a little more expensive and oblique - but I don’t remember most kits being desirable outside the obvious ?

Plug those prices into modern money and be surprised at what’s good value these days guys !

Just one RC10 - wow ... those were the days

Marui - what a bargain ?! All of them

The Dynatech - it never was quite right was it ...

Kyosho’s flatnose Porsche must have been a leopard on that Ultima chassis - but (for me) looked it like a dog vs Tamiya’s 935 🤔

Anyway over to you gents !

I’d love to read whatever memory lane holds for any of you every Sunday 👍

Or going to the hobby store seeing those crp/proline hop ups hanging up, etc...

I just dug out my copy of Mpdel cars monthly from 1984. Anyone fancy a Blazing Blazer for £99.95, or the full kit with TX, battery and chargers for £175.00??

Oh how i wish i knew then what i know now...

Brushed motors that need maintenance for best performance batteries that you had to look after not because of safety but because there was a very good chance it wouldn't last the 5 minute race! and rc cars and trucks that looked like cars and trucks! magazines that were full of adverts and shop adverts with actual prices (before the internet) you could look through a magazine for hours! And almost every town had it's own local hobby shop in one form or another, I don't care what anyone says those were the best times👍

£175 from 1984 is £560 today @junkmunki would a rere cost , more?

The Moutaineer rere was priced around £390 when it was released, so I reckon a Blazer rere would be around the same...

That said though, I would imagine a rere would kill the sky high prices originals are going for...
