hayabusa95 42 Posted August 22, 2019 Hello everyone, I was searching on web for budget rally build and found M03R. What do you think about converting to Rally? What parts need? Im not sure to start that project and just wanna ask you Have a great day.
TurnipJF 9192 Posted August 22, 2019 It doesn't need much. Rally block tyres, sealed bearings and a front kickup bumper from a TL-01B, along with the shocks built slightly longer, and it handles rally terrain very nicely. The transparent blue tinted shocks that come with the R version are very pretty but also quite brittle. It'd swap them out for standard black ones, or alloy ones if you are feeling flush. Juls1 1661 Posted August 22, 2019 i assume your talking on road rally? if not with the m chassis you’ll need very hard relatively smooth ground to run it on or you’ll just spend all your time bogged. The little tires offer so little ground clearance and so very little grip unless you have a perfect place to run you’ll be better jumping up to something on 1.9” wheels. TurnipJF 9192 Posted August 22, 2019 I find mine doesn't need a hard surface. Firm sand, medium to fine gravel and short grass are all well within its capabilities. The TL-01B kick up front bumper makes a big difference, allowing it to ride up and over obstacles that would stop a stock M-03.
Mad Ax 9325 Posted August 22, 2019 I have an older M03 converted for rallying. It's been a long time since I used it (or even looked at it, to be honest) but IIRC it has slightly longer shock eyes to increase the ride height. It also has an old set of Ripmax 1.9" rally block tyres. These are very soft and wear out quick but give good grip. They fill out the arches of a Tamiya Suzuki Swift body nicely, although they'd look daft under a Mini or a genuine 1:12 car.
Honza 937 Posted August 22, 2019 You can also use M05ra uprights to get extra ride height.
