I’m doing a new shell for my lunchbox - shouldn’t be too hard to guess where it’s going after a few posts

was going to buy a full kit as the cost of the kit wasn’t much more than the bits for a shell but wanted to do a few extra bits so decided to minimise the costs up front

bought black shell, chrome and window from tinterweb (thanks Jadlam)

did some masking to dechrome the front end...(I’ve never done anything like this before)

and used white primer to get a good base coat

Unmasked the grill - happy with the results

Front bumper finished (headlamp lenses, indicators and number plate)

have “reshaped” it using the matte black to give me more the look I wanted 

 

Just wish the rain would lay off

Got some new wheels and some light bars

 

the light bars are fab but the wheels are a little bit crap. They are defo not suitable for driving. The hub is correct for the lunchbox but the hub isn’t actually fixed to the rim. So when you put the wheel nuts on, 90% of the wheel falls off

Added some adhesive but they won’t be going on the road but this car is shelf ware only  

 

then I trimmed the side steps and removed the exhausts from the lunchbox ones, then primered and sprayed matte black

 

(I also primered and painted the light bar stands in the body colour - no pics)

Top coat on

Sidebars fitted and they look good (a little seepage of the top coat due to the body lines and this is my first time at masking)

And then drilled the fixing points for the light bars (plus hole for wiring harness)

I think it turned out ok

 

I went with a mix of MCI and eBay decals 

the reason for this is that the MCI ones doesn’t have the window outlines (just white lines) so the eBay ones suit a simple approach.

the eBay reversed “ambulance” and standard “transcon” decals however are orange and white backed so the MCI ones are essential for a quality look.

the MCI kit also has the “55” decals for the front wings which the eBay kit doesn’t.

but the MCI numberplate decals are too big for the lunchbox rear surround so used the ebay kit one (lower quality)

Have you got a link for the light bars? Do they flash or do they need some kind of flasher unit?

They flash themselves and come with the correct connector to go into the receiver
