Hi All,

Happy New Year !

I was all set to buy an M-05 then I started re-reading this thread now I am thinking to get the M-07. Yes, the M-05 is less expensive, but by the time I order bearings, shocks, etc. I am at the price of the M-07.

Am I missing something ?

  1. M-07 $209 with shipping
  2. Suzuki Swift - 1/10 M-Chassis Body Set 51545 fit the M-07 chassis ?
  3. Plus Tires, ESC, motor, servo, and receiver
  4. Anything else I need to buy with the M-07 ?
  5. About $245 M-07 with Suzuki body shipped, plus, tires, motor, ESC and servo

Thank you ! Cheers

One of the add-ons that my clubmates strongly recommended when I got mine was a set of steel diff gears and cross shafts. Apparently they manage to blow the plastic ones with some regularity. Mine are still going strong after many laps of postal racing, but I have a steel set ready to go in when necessary.

One more thing @museguy, if the M07 is like the M08 it will only take a low profile servo, unlike the M05/ 6’s that will accept a standard size servo.

Hopefully a M07 owner could clarify that 😉

Hi All,

Thank you for your support and answers to my NooB questions !

In researching the M-07 parts I found the Xpress XP-90018 FM1S 1/10 FWD Sport Mini Touring Car Kit is that based on the Tamiya M-05 / M-07 ?

Thank you ! Cheers

I do not have the Xpress one but I do have a 3Racing MG Evo (FMF, gear) and a M4 (M4WD, belt, shrunken S64). These cars are not really meant for carpark bashing as they have extremely low ground clearance, the MG Evo lower than the M4. After just one carpark bash, this is how my MG Evo looks like. Also it was mentioned to me that belt drive and exposed spur and pinions are not good for outdoor drive although other owners mentioned they had no problems.

I replaced most of the screws on the bottom with stainless screws as they rusted just after one damp outdoor run.

They are highly adjustable, far more adjustments and "extras" OOB than a typical Tamiya. Bearings, CVAs, CVDs, sway bars etc...

If you want to get an Xpress MTC, I will suggest getting the XM1S (I am planning to get one soon) instead as it is 4WD, unless you have reasons to get a FWD.

If you want to experiment with non Tamiya MTC FWD, I suggest getting the MG Evo as they are really cheap, I got mine for just £70 delivered from HK directly from 3R. Only thing is the instructions is not great for the 238mm (yes, 1mm shorter than Tamiya 239mm) setting. They do not come with any electronics at all but run surprisingly good with a silver can.

After reading this I smashed my french press on the floor in the hope of fixing it to be able to earn another car.

For reasons I can't fathom my wife didn't really understand the logic.

@Nikko85

There is always a way to justify the next RC purchase !

Dear @alvinlwh

Thank you for the feedback, very much appreciated !

Yes, I am curious about FWD and was planning to get a M07 until I found the 3Racing MG Evo ($72 plus shipping) seems to be an inexpensive way to try out FWD. Any suggestions for additional parts to purchase for the 3Racing MG Evo ?

How does the 3Racing MG Evo compare to the M05 ? to the M07 ?

Thank you ! Cheers

Not really, try it as it is. If you want bing shiny aluminium, there is the motor mount (picture below) but it is not necessary as the original is already metal. Here is my build thread with all the "extras" I had put in, nothing much, none are necessary.

If you want to experiment with gear ratios, I will suggest ordering a range of spur directly from 3R as I made the mistake of ordering elsewhere and got a spur with wrong spacing and cross threaded my spur holder. While off brand ones can work, if you get direct, you can be sure they are 100% correct. Experts will probably be able to buy the right stuff but I am just a beginner at this. I am currently putting in very high gear ratios to try and kill the silver can. This is the biggest I can go within the physical limits of adjustments, currently FDR of 2.91.

I have a 48T spur coming in, hopefully that will fit, and then I can fit a 50T spur in for a FDR of 1.92.

I do not have a M-07 but have a M-05Ra. I prefer this over the M-05Ra, I think it's extremely adjustable gear ratios actually makes it easier and nicer to drive. BUT this is probably down to my driving style, being a basher, I just wack it in full throttle all the time.

@museguy

Just want to add, I am currently building another MTC sized FWD (but FF not FMF like the M-05) chassis. However it is more like a M sized pan car instead of a mini touring car like the M-05 or MG Evo, so is probably not what you will want.
