Wild One

Recommended Posts

Having just got @Grumpy pants Wild One I set about taking all the stickers off as I wanted a different scheme. This increased my dislike for Polycarbonate as its so flimsy and I hate painting the inside. Also wanted to have a more realistic driver. So off I went to Hoobycraft and came back with fresh supplies of plasticard and i set about constructing more of a FAV type front end. Im also going to get a driver to sit in the cockpit rather than the one that comes with the kit.

Got a kind of oval stock car look to it. Will also add a Shapeways engine cover and exhaust and maybe a roof as well as trying to do the curves in plastic might be tricky.

I made a roof from plastic card for one of my W/O's . Made in 3 layers and heated to produce the curves

All changed a bit. Now more like a Jaffa cake (Mmmmmmmmm:wub:) Added the Shapeways dummy motor. It looks great, a bit grainy but I'm not going to spend any more time trying to smooth it out. I have a set of Brat wheels that are gouig to be black but Im waiting for nuts and bolts to put them together. Obviously nobody told the driver that he should throw his helmet away if its csratched and dented???IMG_1519.JPG.db57728a26aef9b5d1b47f3cbe732e0c.JPGIMG_1520.JPG.3c58d723310b44a7202cade4d16d8bc5.JPGIMG_1521.JPG.853559a6d42f32007065710e402cb281.JPG

Nearly all done. Now fitted with Torque tuned motor and ballraced. Brat wheels being painted and still waiting for nuts and bolts. Changed supplier to Tony so should be here in a couple of days. Still not sure about a roof. I quite like it without. You can see the interior better. We'll see!!!

True. I have a plan that involves some 0.5mm aluminium sheet, which also may bu used for a roof.

The FAV driver base fits into the w/O , the drivers left arm needs to be modified to fit into the W/O lexan body shell

Your next challenge is to make the driver a seat

Wheels and tyres fitted. My God what a job. Thought it would take 20 minutes ended up taking best part of 2 hours. One wheel would just not go together. Finally took a drill to it and countersunk the holes!!!!

Cant fit a roof now as driver just too tall. Might add a little extra roll hoop to the back section to save his head in a roll!!!

Is that a Jurassic Park Jeep waiting in the background?

Ah, you spotted my next project:ph34r: No not Jurassic Park but it it is inspired by a TV series that ran from 77 - 83. It didnt actually feature a Jeep at all, in fact the vehicles had 2 wheels not 4. I'm waiting for bits so will reveal all when they've all arrived!!!

Having made the seat I thought I'd try my hand at some more metal fabrication. Really need a mini anvil and a better hammer but not bad for a first attempt. At least now the driver should keep his head in a roll:(

All I need now are some small side panels at the rear for racing numbers and perhaps a number on the roof, and some high level rear lights. I have some beetle rear light pods that I might use?

I was just going to say, the rear edge of the roof is crying out for some hi-level tail-lights now - the Axial Racing light-bucket set is a good way to get a mix of size lamps - including the small oval ones which would work well the rear, and a pair of large round spots for headlights?

Yes it needs something. Trying to do my no buy too many bits thing, so I'll have a look through the spares box first. Have loads of 1/24 car bits, 1/48 plane bits to look through. I've just cut up a rocket pod to make a Tacho to fit on the cowling along with some clear sheet for a low screen. Never know what your going to find after hoarding bits of models for more years than a care to count:lol:

Hee hee - no insults here, I read it in context ;o)

You won't regret those Axial lights - I use them all the time - they are great quality and you get a good selection of different sizes for front and rear.

I particularly like the little round flush fit ones which worked well in the bumper of the STUMPkin and I used them again in the rear of the STUMPkamper too for example:

As far as rear lights go, someone and I do not know who makes a class 4 rear bar that also echos the 4 light bar at the back of a prerunner. Class rules for the err... Classes dictate two reds and a blue and orange for dust. Would be appropriate on a desert buggy.

Does anyone here know that company and part number?
