So...an adjustment to MAP started yesterday

Recommended Posts

And was it as cheap as the Far East products?

consumerism drives where we buy our stuff

we want it cheap and therefore labour is the big cost and only place to make significant savings

Thanks to all for explaining MAP. Seems bonkers to me. I just wish there were more decent LHS left. I live less than 20 miles from London and it's now miles to a decent store😩

The usual next step here would have been for Tamiya to ban shops from selling outside of their own country, this has happened many times before with cars, motorcycles and electronic goods so I am surprised that Tamiya haven't taken this step but have backed down to a degree. Back in the 80's and 90's this applied in Europe and it was only the EU stepping in and the legal protections of the free market that stopped it and indeed encouraged cross border sales.

In the US and EU this would work.. but in HK / China.. no way.. they don't care

Another update to MAP pricing.  It seems that it has spread to the HK Market.  RCMarts prices are now identical to tower hobbies.

1. 47461 TA02 Opel Calibra $107.10

2. 47471 Grasshopper 2 $109.90

3. 58689 TT02 Ford GT $141.40

4. 58393 TA8 Pro $311.50

It is also the same on parts, for instance the TA08 prices on RCMart and Tower are identical.

Tamiya has certainly clamped down, which means more money out of our pockets! 😡

Yeah, I've started to see that too.  Shipping is astronomical right now, so you really have to want something to justify buying from a HK seller.

In addition, we are not being charged sales tax no matter what state you live in.  I tried to ship my TA08 Pro to Texas, Colorado, Florida.. Tower was charging sales tax for all.  😡  We're turning into the EU

The pandemic has created a boom in the hobby.  Seems Tamiya is struggling to meet demand. My buddy in Nor Cal has been waiting for months for the MF01X Ford Escort Mk.2 .. his backorder at Tower never was filled.

Thats still a fantastic price on the Ta02 Calibra though. In the UK its £149 with out the esc to - £170 to £190 with esc which is about $210 to $260 at best.

Whats a bit strange is the TT02 based kits are typically less than the TA02 kits in the uk (ford gt and escort is about £130)

I think it's a typo - it's $170 when I looked just now on rc mart
