Wild One (?)

Recommended Posts

Have ordered a wild one and am going to create one that’s defo not box art....

ive got some shapeways parts and some additional 3D printed parts already.

have ordered a FAV driver and parts.

ball races obvs (even though it’s a shelf queen)

Already started to paint the shapeways parts

aircooled engine and exhaust. I’m using humbrol paints (Metal and chrome) on top of a white tamiya primer.

I’ve kept the engine block rough from the 3D printing to simulate the cast alloy block.

the exhaust and the air filter covers I’ve used some wet and dry to try and make them smoother (as these are normally polished metals)

Matt Black on the air filter to simulate the foam and red distributor cap (I think that’s a universal requirement)

CP20ZwB.jpg

Then blue for the cool, chrome for the top of the air filters and the top of the engine cover (plus I’m assuming the indent is going to be an engine plate if I can find something with small enough writing on)

iKf5ZCn.jpg

then I’ve got a dash and a fuel cell being printed by my good friend @Xeostar

now I just need the vehicle here but they are all on back order :(

engine looks good. I must have got the coil from a different supplier as mines the same red as the distributor and the foam in my air cleaners is yellow:lol: I didnt do much rubbing down as mine is def a runner. I also painted the back half of the gearbox aluminium to match the engine colour. In all fairness we are crediting the wrong people with the engine etc. True Shapeways print it but Customsknights alias @Toykid ( I believe) is the creator of these mini masterpieces.:)

Yes - sorry he did create it - it’s superb levels of detail

I will also be colour coding the rear of the gearbox

Added a bit more detail to my engine

Added a primer to the whole FAV driver tree

it's actually a good little parts tree to get for the money as you get the driver, headlights, much better rear lights (with the additional shape) plus steering wheel, gear stick, a dash with grab handle (albeit attached to the solid bonnet) and a few other parts :)

im not going to go into much more detail with the paint at the moment until I know what needs chopping. I think I’ll spray it up black though and paint everything on top of that base coat :)

Wished I looked at this before I did mine? Would have saved me having to build a new front end. Could have just adapted the FAV one!!! Hey hoy.

Spent the day working out what of the wild one I’ll be making matte black

lots of unused parts on the trees so removed or masked

the rest im spraying on the tree

I cut the roll bars out and masked off the threaded parts

KoYIpNF.jpg

Light dusting on one side but this rain is making painting a real PITA and the missus is not liking it in her dining room ;)

for a change I’m not using tamiya plastic primer - hoping it goes well but the tamiya stuff runs out quickly and you can get twice as much at half the price for generic stuff

Long day working away today but back, eat and into the shed ;)

Got rear drive shafts fitted

xlZb1D5.jpg

and prepping the gearbox to tie in with the air cooled @Toykid engine

And got the rear shocks built up (finding the top cap doesn’t sit flush with the collar of the main body - normal??)

and again year fit of the @Toykid engine

Doing some work on the FAV driver

my painting skills are not the best but I’m trying ;)

plus I got some modelling chequer plate and have created a slightly different effect to break up the big expanse of black...

b6jigoO.jpg

RrPoKnH.jpg

and given it a quick coat of grey ahead of a metal paint

Added the FAV Rear lights today

DJal8S9.jpg

they are supposed to fit on the inside of the space frame but the @Toykid engine restricts this so they are on the outside (for now)

also fitted a 3D printed fuel cell from thingiverse

kdAhtsD.jpg

and gave the “chequer plate” a metallic finish and test fitted

mHbXH8j.jpg

(gonna change the red harness to orange matte)

And the body work has had 4 coats of pearl white

3UmYsDS.jpg

ill back with plain white too

I love quiet weekends :)

so finished off the 3D printed dash

Xu8TlNb.jpg

Then thought I’d beat start placing the electronics

the ESC fits perfectly under the driver area and the receiver sits on the inner side of the chassis

mS7ne1H.jpg

JzQPRgq.jpg

....with the switch mounted to the side.

Shell now painted up and stickered

great work and attention to detail. The black cage fits this build nicely imo. That 3d printed engine looks choice you should add some hoses/wires to it. As much fun as it is too look over, I hope you have fun giving it some runtime too.

thanks :)

Just trying to finalise a few bits then to modify the fav guy so he fits his left arm inside the shell

then it’ll be done I think and I can focus on the clod buster :)

Yeah when I’ve got it all together properly I’ll post :)

it’s still missing a roof to enable access for the FAV driver fitting
