Between 1977 & 83 those of us of a certain age were glued to the tv on a Satuday evening watching Baker and Poncherello tracking down the baddies and doing good deeds, whilst speeding around on Kawasaki 900/1000 bikes (Changed from 900 to 1000 for season 3 onwards) Sgt. Joseph Getraer their boss sometimes rode a bike but often used some other form of "black & white". Im not sure if he ever drove a Jeep but if he did it would been a CJ rather than a YJ and would have looked a bit like this

My Plan is to alter a wrangler shell using shapeways parts to produce my own version. The colourway will be slightly different from this. Mine is going to be all black with white doors and non bling wheels!!! It will be driven by a laid back Sgt in a cowboy hat. I have ordered some flashing lights from China which are on their way. Not sure if they are right so may have to search further. Any way I have the major components so I can start:

Rather than use the Tamiya glass which I beleive is tinted I'm using Loops glazing set along with their dash and wipers. First thing is to cut up a brand new Wrangler body to replace the bonnet and the grill:unsure:

Watch this space!!!!

Alas probably not. The tailgate, both halves is quite expensive and I must admit had'nt thought about the fenders, so I suppose its going to be a CJ/YJ hybrid:ph34r:

Just checked a few images and its quite confusing. The general difference in the fenders between YJ and CJ seems to be the rear ones which are rounded on the CJ and squarer on the YJ. But not on all? Some CJ's seem to have the square rears so I'm not so worried now. Also if I put a spare on the back the tailgate wont be too noticeble. Lets call it a standoff scale build!!!

Only CJ with rear squarer fender I know is CJ8 which has long wheelbase. If you're going to use 1.9 tires then the spare should cover the tailgate well. Tamiya body doesn't have a specific tailgate anyway other than side hinges.

Now look again I can see what you say about long wheelbase. I did find a you tube video of a guy that converted the whole thing using a kit from Italy, made of resin by the looks of it. Its a lot of work to do the rear fenders as they need to be re radiused. I might take the running boards off though and extend the side of the body down a bit. Just have to how we go. Most of my time at the moment is trying to get a decent finish on the Shapeways bonnet. Its really quite grainy, still nothing elbow grease and wet and dry wont conquer.

Before I had a drink tonight I cut the bonnet off the original. Scary moment but went to plan

Bonnet seems to fit well.

Seeing as mine technically never existed I can play my own gameB). Does anybody have a 1/10 scale Alsatian? Some of the stickers I have are for a K9 unit.

go stake out a toyshop :)

Schleich makes some nice animal figurines, they're about 1/12.

Once found some offbrand dog toys (branded PAL which is a local dogfood) that are nicer 1/8-1/9th... looks better a bit oversized that undersized imho. They're earmarked for riding in Mounty tray :P

I've heard of Schleich, all I need to to is find a toy shop. Toys R us used to be my go to store for odd scale figures but sadly no more. I think there is a Smythes somewhere in Watford so will have a look.

Ah PAL prolongs active life!!!!!

Still a lot of sanding to do. Boy the stuff that shapeways use is tough. Looks ok from a distance

That's the sad part of affordable 3D printing. But your Jeep looks great so far. Are you keeping the hard top ?

oh yes. Looked at taking it off but for the CHiPs idea i didnt need to, problem with the CC01 is the steering servo. Its just where the driver should go. So with lots of P38 i am bulking up my drivers back so i can cut him higher up to make an interior. Looks like the Loops dash is going to be wasted. Will fit something in the future:) The servo is just in the wrong place unless they drove on the right side of the road:ph34r:

You can mount servo horizontal between front wheels. You will have lots of space and tighter steering.

Found this photo on google for idea;

to much work at the moment. Also not sure if the new grill would fit, I've had to cut away a lot of the fenders as it is.

A few people have commented that although my Jeep now has a CJ front end the rear is still YJ. So I did a little bit of digging and came up with this "story" In early 1983 Officer Harlan Arliss (Retired) who was the mechanic for all the CHiPs vehicles was contaced by Jeep and asked, along with other vehicle specialists, to test their forthcoming YJ Wrangler. In order to digise the fact of what they were doing they used a short wheelbase version of the long wheelbase CJ8. It had the square rear arches but the original CJ bonnet and grill. The vehicle proved a success and was put into production but the body was changed to the traditional YJ style with square headlights that we now have. So there you have it!!! Honestly:ph34r:

Anyhow the last part arrived today. I have another set on order that are square rather than oval, should be here Fiday. I really do not know how they can produce something like this and ship it for free from Kowloon all for £7!!!!!

Have you tired thinning out some two part epoxy with lacquer thinner and coating the Shapeways parts?  It makes a great brush-on filler that can be sanded down.  Practice on the back of that bumper or underside of the hood.  I use about 5% thinner mix into the epoxy.

Ended up with just elbow grease, filler primer and wet n dry paper. Have got it to a paintable state. Put it all together to se how it looks. When I first did it I realised that the Shapeways grill doesnt come with any  light buckets or lens. So I started a search, but in this case I used my eyes not google. Sitting on a shelf above where I model is a part completed 1/12 Airfix Bentley Blower. In a box I have all the unused parts incliding the light buckets and lens, and guess what they fit. Result. The other set of lights should arrive today so I can decide which ones to use. Then its on to paint. My two most unfavourite colours Gloss white and Black!!!! Leaving the inside for the moment, will get round to it eventually.

Had a good day. Managed to get the temperature  up in the shed along with the oven on and got a fairly good couple of black coats on. Then got the soapy water out and pre cut decals and this is what you get. All I need is some California Sunshine:)

Glass and a few other bits to do. Then need to work on an interior!
