Cutting body posts

Recommended Posts

Probably been asked 1000 time, but what is everyone’s method of cutting down body posts so as they look nice and neat, not just “hacked” off. Pics of results would be awesome, cheers

I use a body post cutter! Pretty good results, can even chamfer the ends!

I just chop them roughly with side cutters then trim them neatly with a craft knife.

Hi

For myself, I use a miter saw (I' m cabinet maker) or I fix the body post on my lathe... I recognize that the pipe cutter is a nice solution ;)

Regards

I can vouch for the pipe cutter, used it on my TA06, very neat results

Oh darn......I came here to post how I finally found the perfect way to cut down body posts where they look somewhat professional.  Apparently there are several of you as smart as I am (and faster at being smart....) who also own a small tubing cutter.   ;)

I've seen the Yeah Racing body post trimmer and while the idea is fine, the end result was no better than me rolling a body post under my Olfa knife..

That said, I don't use any fancy tools.. just Tamiya trimmer if the posts are already on the car, or roll it under my knife to cut.  I usually follow up with some matte black enamel to hide any white marks on the cut surface.

Hack it off with whatever I have to hand, side cutters, junior hacksaw, etc... and then finish it off with a file.

However I no longer cut body post anymore as I now see them as extra protection in a roll over. Hack too much and roll overs can ground it down to a point of being unable to secure the body anymore and I will need a new parts tree to replace them.

Used to cut mine down low as possible because I didn’t like looking at them - snip off at the hole above, file flat & de-burr with a fag lighter.

I got them from eBay, from memory had to but 2 sets with different offsets to get the wider offset rear. I’ll see if I can find a link

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331796634264 - 3mm offset
