I chuck some fairy liquid in and a bit of flash kitchen cleaner

ive also put some degreaser in before

whatever you’d use to wash plastic then put that in with some water

it has 180, 300, 600 and 900 second cycles but 300 is more then enough

Oops so this has now become a double rebuild

yeCLIPw.jpg

i couldn’t see this one going unloved so I thought “hey - why restore 1 when I can restore 2”

so watch this space - one will defo be for sale in the new year :)

JJ

Question - do I rebuild this one and sell it in excellent condition or sell it as a project?

Keep both. Select the best parts from each, build one for the shelf from those parts and use the rest to build a runner.

In all seriousness, you'd have to weigh up whether the time and financial cost involved in restoring it is worth the enjoyment you'd receive from doing it.

Rebuilt the economy/power switch on both clods today.

1 is better than the other but here is what I did with the bad one

here are the parts that make up the switch

j6xwyFd.jpg

2 x springs

2 x contractors

1 x switch

1 x switch housing

1 x contractor board

I gave everything a little clean first with some contact cleaner

place the 2 springs in the switch

W5YGdgT.jpg

then gently rest the contractors on top

rPSTPEt.jpg

then place this assembled part carefully inside the switch housing

HvlnJGl.jpg

as you can see, the housing is damaged meaning the clips that hold the contact board are not as secure as they should be

place the contact board between the clips

3XlAptc.jpg

to keep the clips tight Ive added some tie wraps but nothing else :)

I’ve also ordered 2 x sport tuned 540s to give the lower chassis a cleaner “all black” look

Doesn't the Clod require zero-timing motors, or a reverse rotation motor for the rear axle if running any timing? I think with two Sport Tuned motors you'll get a slower rotating rear end.

yes, One (can’t remember front or back) runs in reverse.

But reignites the ageold Q... is a SportTuned a 27t with Timing, or a lesser turn (some say 23t) with zero timing.

Also if you’re buying SportTuned just for its ‘black’ can, hope you’ve bought old stock. I hear recent new stocks are arriving not black.

The front motor runs in reverse when going forwards.

The black can Sport Tuned motors in my F1s run significantly faster forwards than in reverse, suggesting that they are 27t with advanced timing. Haven't tried a silver can Sport Tuned yet though.

Hmmmmm - dunno

I’ll have a look at one of my other cars

the ESCs I have all make my motors run slower in reverse

tbh these are from ali express so doubt they are even set up like what is being described ;)

£4 each though so.....

experience on the lunchbox mini was that the car behaved the same with the sports tuned 380(?!)

will let you all know

ive been running the 2nd of my clods today and it’s such great fun

just needs The top end of the MSC adjusting

will advertise it soon with the 2 shells i have

So got my 2 x sport tuned from AliExpress

F5m1HPI.jpg

I gave the box a good luck to make sure I get the uk’s first case of Coronavirus from a shipped package and reap the financial rewards from the press :)

I tested both motors on a battery in both directions and clearly because they are fake ones (chosen for their colour only) they run the same speed in each direction (as far as I can tell)

Fitted them to newly assembled gearboxes using new sleeves and threaded screws.

they look fab and much better than the silver cans :)

Q49Eb9p.jpg

and then refitted the bumper bars

Smnt02z.jpg

and the metal gearbox supports look great too

M79etvu.jpg

then fitted the front and rear gearbox assemblies to the chassis again with all new fittings

4s3tyx7.jpg

and have started to prep the suspension for fitting - all with new sleeves, washers, nuts and bolts

WGLZWgi.jpg

getting there - nearly ready to start on the shell (well 2 of them)

Am now starting to get the shells ready for painting

so I have x3 shells.

1 x original and battered

1 x original and almost stripped

1 x brand new

and 2 sets of Chevy panels

so the middle shell and all the Chevy boot panels are in a bag with some bbq cleaner slowly removing the remaining paint.

Bit more work this evening hidden away in my shed...

replaced all the springs with new ones so now all shiny

then built up new battery end caps as they were on the tree for the chassis base plate so may as well use them.

then wheels on to make sure everything runs like it should

Mint one will be yeah (maybe with the addition of arch extensions)

other one will just be red with no stickers unless I think it’s worth my money to add them to sell on for a better price

guess it depends on how well it looks after painting
