Have been driving my Lunchbox quite alot the last couple of days, and it´s been a blast. Most fun has been on a parkinglot with slightly uneven tarmac (some gentle bumps in varios places) that works the suspension setup so you cant go full all the time.

Maybee it´s the way it handles and how it lifts the front up on acceleration, but it feels darn fast.

Had my Hummer with a sporttuned 540 in it with me one day, it felt sluggish in comparison. Not sure if the Traxxas ESC is to blame in the hummer, but i didnt think of it like that before. And the Lunchbox has the standars 540SH in it. It answers directly on throttle and just sets off like a yellow lightning. And the motor hardly gets warm, unlike the sporttuned in the Hummer that gets really hot going slow or fast (less hot if going full). I sure like my Hummer, but i think it needs a bit more speed now.

Battery time on the LB has been like i no other car i have also. 45min fast driving today on a 3000Nimh, and 30min on a 1700Nicd.

Hummer gets maybee 20min on a 3000Nimh.

But i wonder, do you get the same drivingtime on yours, and what do you think of the speed.

Wonder the same if you got a Hummer also. I think the cheaper ESC could be to blame perhaps there. The LB has a Hitec HFX-R.

Both is fully ballraced.

The Hitec HFX-R is one of the best budget ESCs around, it's much more efficient than any of the Traxxas ones. The ESC is why the Lunchbox seems more responsive. As the motor in the Hummer is getting hot and it seems sluggish the pinion on the motor is too big. I know it sounds strange but fitting a smaller pinion on the motor would make it go faster as it would allow the motor to get into its power band easier.

I´ll be getting another Hitec ESC to the Hummer i think. I could put the Traxxas ESC in my Monster Beetle or something.

And yes, the tranny/driveline in the LB seems to be very smooth, just by listening to it.

Thanks for the input!

I really need to buy new batterys. I have old 1200's and only last about 3-4 mins max. That was also the length of the races back in the 80s so to hear 45 min run time makes me want new batterys.

A good battery is a good investment. Actually i thought i had abused my 3000Nimh quite alot, and i got it with my Bush Devil second hand, and it still deliveres great. Think of a new 3600Mah pack...

i finally got one of mine built last night.

will start painting tonight.

but i had a little go with her last night and she's juat a wheeelie machine. i can see i am gonna have loads of fun with it

The new Lunchbox I've got with the TEU101BK ESC seems to shift along a lot faster than my old '89 Pumpkin ever did (at least until I put a Technigold in it...), and is much more wheelie-prone - equally, I've got a recent Pumpkin with MSC and that's equally quick. As is the Hornet reissue, far faster than the original seemed - I think it's just that the basic 540 motor simply spins a lot faster than it did 15 years ago because technology has moved on a bit.

finally painted her last night.

and after 4 times of having to rub the shell down with glass paper to get it right. i got it the way i wanted. so will apply the decals tonight. and have a go at the steering as its not right. i have done all what it says in the manual but i have to ajust the steering all the way to the left on the transmitter so i will hopoefull sort it out tonight.and why is it the front wheels seem to stick in (not sit level on the tyre's).but i am gonna order a spare shell and do a different paint job on that. i am think of the purple to green tamiya paint. with some ghost flames and something on the both panels.

It´s a weird angle, and it makes the tyres wear on the outside half when going fast on tarmac, but sure is worth it.

topforcein, post some pictures if possible. It would be nice to see yours finished and all.

Won't work, only works with lexan if you're looking at it through the plastic and paint it with black from behind. On a styrene shell it'd just come out a mess I'm afraid.

If you want prismatic/iridiscent colours suitable for hard plastic shells like the Lunchbox, Alclad has at least two (or should I say four?[:P]) colours to choose from.

sorry but it will work as i have tryed it before just spray the black on first. then spray the prismatic on top of that.

Intersting. Will give it a go since it'd be easier to work it that way around - the problem we've found with these paints is that normally you're never 100% if you've got it fully coated until you put the black on, after which it's too late.

my brother painted his bashboard once with the custom colours breen to blue prismatic and it turned out the same as when you paint a lexan shell so if it worked on his bashboard it will work on the hard shell rc shell.he even tryed it on 15"subs and it never came off even the whellie he gave them.
