Show Us Your Static Kit Thread.

Recommended Posts

Having read a few comments from members that they are giving static kits a go I thought I’d start somewhere to show them.
I have no idea if there is such a thread already and sorry if I’m doubling up on it as I couldn’t find one.
It’s always seems that topics in this area get buried as it did took me a while to find these extra threads outside the main RC sections as clicking in the top left to get to the main page, one more click when ‘Home’ appears in the top left brings up these extra Sections to peruse.

I built many 1/24th scale Trucks in my youth back in the UK so decided to do a couple later on in life. I’ve never owned an air brush as I’ve always thought the last one will be the last one and talked myself out of getting an air brush as it would no longer be required. So much for that theory, so all are hand painted using a dry brush method for weathering.
So here’s a few to get started

AE88FD9D-E1C9-4663-BAD6-C5F43F048561.md.

4F18809C-684B-4976-9D8C-DB71B81F893E.md.

8A6F1739-1B17-4813-BD4A-0B732A2FD2E4.md.

looking forward to seeing your’s.

Wow, the detail is incredible!

Well done mate. B)

I haven't built a static kit for years and years.

There is a half completed '55 Chevy Nomad in a box from about 20 years ago, with some custom work done on it.

And a BNIB '58 Plymouth that I was intending to do a 'Christine' replica with. Haven't got around to that one.

All the car kits I built during my teens are long gone, as are the WW2 planes I built between the ages of about 7 and 10.

Some of the cars I built came out alright, but from memory the planes had cement all over the window glass as I couldn't touch them up like the painted parts.

If I still had them I'd post some pics for a good laugh.

Remember Easter Island on Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer, since i can remember i've always fixed (or tried real hard) things. any old toy to me is worth salvaging when possible

random pics of old kits/builds. most of these have since been lost/destroyed/damaged... yeah so that kinda put me off building statics for now. rc's are much more hardy... ;)

This is the last one i built around 5 years ago. It was a kit from the 80's by the look of it and most of the psrts needed heating up to make them fit and glue together properly. It was built for my brother and he asked me not to paint it as he wanted to do that himself.

I've only recently gotten back into static models. In the past year or two, I've bought probably 50... and built two.

1/24 Monogram Camaro:

20190223_134729

20190223_134751

And a Revell 1/25 '39 Ford hot rod, with trailer.

20191223_130119

20191223_130132

20190225_175310

Going to try to build more in the coming year; it relaxes me, I find. Up next will be a trio of 1/25 scale MPC Corvettes: 1957, 1975, and 1985.

I still have some cars that I'd made as a teenager, but they are packed away, so no photos sorry. About 5 years ago I wanted to get back into model making, so this army vehicle is a first attempt at air brushing.

first-attempt-at-air-brushing-1.jpg

and last Christmas I managed to build a car, a 1966 Buick Riveria. Not that great overall, as the paint orange peeled a bit, but at least I tried a few things. I'd never lacquered models before and I undercoated the body in silver and then rubbed back the car badges. I too have in the meantime collected way too many kids and will try another this Christmas break, probably a truck.Build-Riveria-1966-1.jpg

Nice truck and FANTASTIC weathering paintjob! Reminds me a lot of the old Movin' On Pete from the good ol' 70's. Perhaps they intentionally wanted the design to remind people of that old famous rig?

Oh, who doesn't love the incredible Jagermeisster Porsche. Makes me feel sorry for the Taisan to stand that way beside its gorgeous predecessor.

I remember I built this lovely Matchbox/Lesney kit some decades ago. It's sad I did not keep any pictures of it with me, as I loved that thing when I was a kid. It was a birthday present from a family that were good friends of my parents, and yeah back when birthdays were nothing but a happy day from start to finish.

You all have a Merry Christmas! :)

Ahh the 'old finger print in the window . I've done a few of those myself, finger prints in 'tacky' paint while trying to assemble was also a speciality.

I just think of of them as the Artist's unique signature, and because of its uniqueness the item then obviously becomes more valuable ;)

That Lost in Space reminds me of a Billy Blast Off toy I had, he was a motorised space man that had a few vehicles that you sat him in to explore the moons surface.

Love you take the time to save old toys, thats great. I could never help but take new toys apart in my youth to see how they worked.

Thanks!      The 'Movin' On' was one of my favourite  old classic American Trucks, along with the Smokey & the Bandit trucks, B J & The Bear (remember that one!!). But the my all time favourite was the opening scene of Convoy with that black Mack coming over the hill through the Arizona desert, never get tired of that one;)

Got inspired by this thread, and started on one of the Corvettes yesterday...

20191224_083615

Still haven't decided on a body color. The interior is staying red, so probably black or white for the outside. Not sure which yet. Maybe silver. Or maybe just red, but painted so it doesn't have that "raw plastic" look.

Here's the current stash of "builders." The other two Corvettes are in the big plastic tub, and the smaller one is a half-finished Airfix Triumph TR-4 (which I also haven't chosen a color for).

20191224_085048

And here's the more permanent collection (though all of these will eventually get built, before my eyesight gets too bad...)

20191224_085207 20191224_085219 20191224_085234 20191224_085250 20191224_085258

(Not pictured: the MPC 1/25 scale Pontiac Fiero I bought off eBay on Monday night, and won't arrive until after the holidays.)

I have embarked on the rebuild of a 1970s Pocher Rolls Royce kit. These kits are huge and heavy, with working engine, transmision and brakes.

It was originaly built by an elderly gent who has since passed away, although the build quality was quite poor, and a lot of the 1200 parts this has were not fitted very well. I purchased it from his daughter on the strict proviso that i rebuild it to a show standard so that she can see it again. At the moment it is literaly a pair of chassis rails...

I am hand stitching the leather seats, and i have made the dashboard and art deco door capings out of genuine burl walnut.

All of the plastic body panels are going to be hand made in aluminium, and the stamped metal parts are being cast in brass then chrome finished. It will weigh in the region of 5 kilos when finished.

I thought i had a steady hand and good eyesight untill i tried refiting the 82 individual spokes into each wheel, and the making sure they werent buckled.... That sorly tried my patience...

Its taken about a year so far to comletely strip it and start the build from the chassis up, but i will post more pics as the thing takes shape.

Oh wow, those Pocher kits are amazing. My dad built the 1907 Fiat F-2 kit when I was a kid, and the detail on that thing was just incredible. And it sounds like you're taking it to the next level! Please keep posting photos of it, that sounds like an epic project.

My dad had one when i was a kid too, and i just remember the wow factor and the size of it, but now im looking at them with my model builders eye, i can see that they were not great quality, and the parts were quite poorly made, hense the mamoth task of remanufacturing it to a show winning (hopefully if im good enough...) standard.

Ive always wanted to build the ultimate model car, so this is the start of it...

I may not have much time for RC cars anymore, but I may get inspired again with Hasegawa's release of the Lancia 037 that ran in Round 3 of the 1994 JGTC:

https://www.scalemates.com/products/img/0/0/6/1235006-27767-89-720.jpg

Of course, I felt the need to compare, so I also bought Hasegawa's 1984 Tour de Corse version:

https://www.scalemates.com/products/img/0/5/0/123050-10885-pristine.jpg

From what I can tell, the JGTC kit inexplicably excludes the distinctive 18" Work Meister S1 wheels that featured so prominently on the original car; knowing that the JGTC kit is essentially a re-release of their previous 037 models, though, it makes sense. So I ordered a set of Aoshima Work Meister S1s in the correct scale:

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/gXBj8LPT940/maxresdefault.jpg

At least, I think the JGTC car wore them...

I suppose I was feeling a little unmotivated with RC - even after some disheartening life stuff, I think the bigger obstacles were winter weather and the amount of scratchbuilding I still need to do for my projects (sorry, @speedy_w_beans - kind of dropped the ball on the 312T3). Hopefully, some static models (and the greater opportunities for brush painting) will get me back into it for the next decade!

But back on topic: I intend to build up these models, anyway, for I am curious to see how an 037 goes together...

Some great models and toys here with great stories  . It's been a long long time since I built any static models , but in the past I have built a lot of cars / bikes / planes / Dragsters etc . I got into Dragsters after I got to know Dave Stone who lived near me . I still see him from time to time and I got to sit in one of his retired rails back in the day  . The model I liked the most was the '55 Badman Chevy gasser - I bought it from a custom car show at Chrystal Palace many years ago . I might have an old Polaroid pic of it somewhere - need to look
