TB evo IV MS

Recommended Posts

I've owned this for quite a while since buying it from @futureworks.

Taken a long time to collect all the hop ups suitable for it, some very expensive and difficult to find mainly the front spool set and the titanium screw set.

Thanks to @Jonathon GillhamI've found that a TA07 carbon fibre rear damper mount may well fit so I can use my Focus body🤞.

Won't be a quick build and will have to delete some photos as I go on as I seem to run out of space!

Few hop ups and narrow wheels from a tb02r which look a lot like the rally style used on the focus wrc03

This will be an interesting build and I will be following it.

You have a good memory - I think I must've measured the TA07 shock tower about 2 years ago?!

Yeah I am defo following this build. As for storage space for photos. Upload them to Imgur and then link them onto here. It's a little bit of faffing but saves using all your TC photo space. That's what I have done with most of mine in my build threads

I forget if I've locked the door but can remember what happened in the pub 25 years ago 🙄

Watching this with interest - what Focus body are you going to use?

Nice :) I'm also building a TBevo4 at the moment. Looking forward to your result.

Steady start and I've already hit a dilemma!

Which L parts(gearbox) covers do I use? 🤔 Kit black, pink, blue, smoke or clear?

Probably should use the black and sell the others!

I only go blue or smoke to match blue alloy... pink would only suit a red car like the Surikarn TBeIIIse.

Lord only knows why T made the lime green bits for TBeIV. :)

I'd love all the green part's especially the dampers, only ever seen one grainy photo of a chassis fitted with them.

Be nice if the pink gearcase covers fitted the evo III 🤔

Small start on building😁

Lower deck, I've never superglued any carbon fibre so not bothered here either.

Right or wrong 🤔 no idea.

Using a stick battery rather than a separate cell type so J parts needed.

Very straight forward, using titanium screws from the 49345 hop up, not sure if it's got all the screws suitable for the MS but I have a few spare kicking about.

Made a decision on the gearcase covers!

CLEAR

Nice one piece gearboxes which I think is one of the few differences between the MS and regular evo IV.

Next decision

One-way or spool?

49359 took a lot of finding, not opened it yet but I assume it users the same ring gear as the one-way.

Hope so because I have the aluminium ring gear 53721 another rare find.

yep the first car had the 4 walls needing bolting together. Not a huge difference though, we'd glue the walls together anyway so even if the screw fell out it wouldn't collapse. Eventually upgraded my regular to MS gearboxes anyway, just because.

Finned motor plate too I think. Can't remember whether it's Option or MS.

I don't run with oneway, hate having no front brakes. Spool or diff.

oooh alloy spool gear yummy

Finned motor plate is in the box and I have a hop up two part plate to fit

You should compile an Authoritative list of every Hopup available for EvoIV.

Official hopups definitely. Plus later parts that can also fit.

Trouble is where do you draw the line, with parts that can be "made" to fit. Hmm ok here's confirmation the TB04 oil diff can fit https://www.thercracer.com/2014/07/tamiya-tb-evo-4-2014-edition-part-1.html no mods needed.

Hmm Nottingham... been ticking off bucket listing of restoring a vintage Raleigh.
