Frog Jumper 3662 Posted January 7, 2020 Beers... I'm a tire addict. I like buying tires and wheels. Mostly old school 2.2" stuff since they go on my Bushy D, though occasionally I'll buy some 1.5" stuff for my Frog Jumper... I have gobs of old school 2.2 Prolines designed for "standard" 2.2" wheel (50mm wide). I've got quite the collection going now (don't tell my wife!)... I also like big bad and bold tires. Right now the Bushy D has Imex Claw Dawgs and they are HAWT!!! They look great on HPI wheels, and are nice and aggressive... But I wish they were taller and so I've been looking at big tires... I fell in love with the Imex Jumbo Dawgs, but its a love/hate relationship. I love the idea of big honking tires... But I hate the fact that they look ridiculous... And when I saw this, I knew I had to get a new set of big tires to satisfy my cravings... They are beautiful!!! But the wheel set are too wide w/o Mods to fit my tire collection apparently... So I'm not sure the time is right for this set up, at least for me... I've also started compiling a list of Monster Tires, mostly to find a less ridiculous alternative to the Jumbo Dawgs... Here's what I have so far: IMEX Jumbo Dawgs 2.2" - 140mm x 100mm x 56mm - 5.5" x 4" x 2.2" - fits double wide wheels (2.2 x 4.0) JConcepts Ranger 2.2" - 141mm x 75mm x 56mm - 5.57" x 2.95" x 2.2" - fits Midwest wheels (2.2" x ~2.95) HPI Mud Thrasher - 135mm x 73mm x 56mm - 5.31" x 2.87" x 2.2" - fits standard 2.2 wheels (2.2 x 2.0) Proline Destroyer 2.2" - 135mm x 72mm x 56mm - 5.35" x 2.83" x 2.2" - not sure it fits standard 2.2 wheel EBAY "74-54-56" tires - 128mm x 74mm x 56mm (I guess) - 5" x 3" x 2.2" - And then there is this... http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/tires-wheels/3992-**ultimate-tire-size-listing**.html Any other tires to add to the list??? Further... I'm looking at a whole new world with my new 12mm front hex Mod... I've been looking at beadlock wheels on EBAY... But they all seem to be designed for skinny wheels... Its like Millenials and their skinny jeans - just don't look right... And I can't find a set that will fit old fashioned Blackfoot sized 2.2" tires. Can anyone recommend cheap plastic beadlocks that will fit the standard Blackfoot tires??? I don't need the extra weight, and extra expense, of metal... Gimme your Big Fat Blackfoot Tire story!!! Maybe I should lay off the hooch??? Terry
87lc2 2666 Posted January 7, 2020 There are a bunch of 2.2. plastic beadlocks on Amazon that should be wide enough: https://www.amazon.com/RcAidong-4PCS-Plastic-Beadlock-Wheel/dp/B07CMZ4GTY/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=2.2+beadlock+plastic&qid=1578404682&sr=8-6 https://www.amazon.com/Axial-AX8091-Rocksters-Beadlock-Black/dp/B000U2NC9E/ref=sr_1_9?keywords=2.2+beadlock+plastic&qid=1578404763&sr=8-9 https://www.amazon.com/LAFEINA-Beadlock-Wheel-Crawler-Redcat/dp/B075F6TSGY/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=2.2+beadlock+plastic&qid=1578404763&sr=8-1 https://www.amazon.com/LAFEINA-Beadlock-Wheel-Crawler-Silver/dp/B07MB1N1LV/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=2.2+beadlock+plastic&qid=1578404763&sr=8-4 I'm sure there are bunch on Ebay as well. Good luck in your search. For tires, I really like the ProLine 2.2 Destroyers, run them on a truck or two. I also have these cheapies on my CR01and they are surprisingly nice: https://www.amazon.com/Truck-Badland-Monster-Tires-wheels/dp/B0756FKM92/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=2.2+monster+tires&qid=1578404896&sr=8-
tecnica2001 196 Posted January 7, 2020 I’m gonna do you a solid, I’m gonna mount my Midwest wheels with the Ranger tires, from my USA-1 build on the Blackfoot and snap some pictures, to show how’d they look on there, I’m curious myself to see how they look....👍
tecnica2001 196 Posted January 7, 2020 I have a set of the 2.2 Proline Destroyers to mount on a set of grey Midwest wheels, that I can slap on a set of stock Blackfoot wheels to see how they look also....just gotta wait for them to arrive😁 the destroyers will fit the Midwest wheels, they’re just a bit shorter than the Rangers. J@mes 2326 Posted January 7, 2020 Some great modifications on that Bushy D @Frog Jumper I took some original tyres off a 1991 fighter buggy RX last night & was surprised they had that fragrant new kit smell inside (yes I sniffed some old tyres) I’d love more sets but when adding wheels also, sets really stack up the cost! geniusanthony 361 Posted January 7, 2020 SMT10 tires aren't terrible and just a tad bigger than a BF and not as wide as a Clod.
Saito2 6686 Posted January 7, 2020 20200107_160233 by Scott Weiland, on Flickr 20200107_160448 by Scott Weiland, on Flickr Now sure if this helps as these aren't all 2.2s, but here's a comparison shot of most of the monster trucks tires I have in stock. From right to left, the smallest is just a Sand Viper buggy tire for reference. Then a Blitzer rear tire. Next is a worn out King Cab tire which is a bit taller than the Blitzer tire. The Lunch Box tire is next followed by the Monster Beetle tire. Then its a Proline Masher 2000, HPI Wheely King tire, Kyosho Big Boss/Double Dare/Hi-Rider Corvette tire, TXT-2 Agrios tire, and finally a Clod Buster tire. Its impressive how much larger the Big Boss tire is over its main competitor's, Monster Beetle/Blackfoot. I'm hunting for something close to the Kyosho tire in size but on a 2.2 rim for a project. I'm hoping the JConcepts Rangers might be close but I need a comparison shot of one minimally with a Blackfoot tire for reference before I pull the trigger. As a kid, I was all about adapting Clod tires or running those Imex Jumbo Dawgs with the Imex dually rim on smaller trucks like the Blackfoot or Lunch Box. After developing a sense of engineering, I realized all the issues running tires that massive entails. One look at how much beefier the Clod is built to manage those tires was enough for me to think twice about adapting them to mere mortal trucks. Gearing, of course, is likely another factor.
tecnica2001 196 Posted January 8, 2020 As promised, 2.2 Midwest wheels on Ranger Tires....they look awesome standing still, but they rub everywhere, the only way to run these would be to space them out quite a bit. 3
tecnica2001 196 Posted January 9, 2020 Here are my Proline 2.2 Destroyers on a set of Blackfoot wheels....like the Rangers, these are too tall and wide to run without spacing them out a lot...😁👍

They scaled 'em down as if they were 66inchers not 48"s. Had they made then 2.2 size I know I would have made some effort to order a set.
mongoose1983 3335 Posted January 22, 2020 Here's some tire options, but some of these won't fit without making slight mods, that's why the chassis have been changed. I have G-Hawgs in my Monster Beetle. Here's some Blackfoot: HPI Wheely King tires: Here's the smaller TLT-1 tires: and the Traxxas doesn't look bad, but these require some mod to use in the orig Blackfoot chassis:

Aerobert 2147 Posted January 22, 2020 I really like the look of the TLT-1 tyres. Not so 'monsterish' but cool in it's oen way.
emory70 153 Posted February 17, 2020 G Hawgs are my all time favorite vintage tire. I have a few sets of them. And two sets of the Jumbo Dawgs. For laughs, I put them on a Wild Willy 2, and yeah. It's too short
Frog Jumper 3662 Posted February 26, 2020 I found a set of (4) Wheely Kings on 2.2 wheels on FleaBheyz cheap. What the heck I said... I bought some 17mm extensions to go with them, but I need them to be longer... I've ordered a set of 25mm but they haven't arrived yet... Too big???
