Sand Scorcher motor

Recommended Posts

Hello

I am bringing back my Scorcher after some years off, because my motor broke and I left It on the shelf.

Now I want to buy a new one and I'm completely lost. I want more durability and not need a lot of speed.

I have a NOVAK CYCLONE TC ESC

Can you please recomend me a nice motor for my casual runs? I don't know anything about how many "turns" are better and how much does my ESC can handle.

Thank you very much and sorry if I made some mistakes as I'm Spanish and my English is a little bit "rusty"

All day long the Tamiya sport tuned is the ideal motor for a scorcher

Cyclone TC is a fantastic racing ESC, it is rated at "Unlimited" motor limit!! :D it will supposedly handle any 540-size brushed motor made for RC... and back when it was new, there sure were some pretty crazy hot motors made in the 1990s.

I have a heap of Cyclones and they don't even get warm in my usage.

Only caveat is they're a racing ESC so they only go Forward & Brake. (Also check the wiring diagram; it's recommended to solder Schottky diode to your motor. Schottkys can only work on a Forward-only ESC, reversing voltage blows them up.)

Some ppl might want Reverse; you'll want a different ESC for that.

Is this an original Scorcher (nearly 40 years old) or the re-release (10yo?).

Some (ok Many!) motors won't fit into old original Scorcher; newer car might have bigger space in the gearbox & should be able to fit a modern SportTuned or TorqueTuned motor.

Is the old original Sand Scorcher from 1978.

You mean the RS540 Torque tuned or sport tuned wont fit on my gearbox?

Bang on advice, any more is pointless l, any less is pedestrian 👍 imo.

@WillyChang is spot on

A modern Sport or Torque Tuned will only fit a vintage Scorcher if you file down the two lugs inside the half of the gearbox holding the gears and take the sticker off the motor as the aperture is otherwise too tight

No big deal (and easy to do tbh) but won’t keep it 100% original

An old 540SD - Sprint or Endurance - was the period hop up
