An introduction, and Explanation

Recommended Posts

Hiya All:

Been lurking a while, and signed up finally, then lurked more, and now posting. I'm not shy, just no internet time really.

So, back in the 80's I started with a Frog with my brother. Then progressed to a Fox I bought 2nd hand. I used to lust after the Hotshot when it came out, but the parents wouldnt buy me one.

So I hatched a plan ;)

Turn my Fox into a Hotshot Look-a-like :D

Here it is, I used it LOADS up until 89/early 90 where it got replaced with my (1st) wife. I did canibalise one of the front steering ball joints for an accelerator cable mount around 95, but then didnt touch it again. It just sat in the fruit crate it was in, either on a shelf covered up in a cupboard, or in the garage. All the spares, and psare wheels witting in the fishing tackle box they used to be kept in. The tyres survived 28-30 years with no sign of degradation. All these Mods I did 30+ years ago.

Hotshot wishbones & cage

Fox Front ARB Mount, custom made bar & Links

Full custom rear ARB Mount & links

Hotshot 2/Supershot front shock mounts

Schumacer CAT Shocks

Hotshot cage

Increased throw steering linkage

metal Hotshot front hubs

Rear Uprights modded to fit.

Technituned/Gold motor

Tamiya Frog Spur gear with Brass upgrade

I have since fixed the chassis weakspot using some off cuts of a car Dashboard ABS & PVC Pipe weld.

That gearbox grase is 30+ year old Campagnolo Bike Lithium Grease, inside the original Mk1 gearbox casing (No Bump Stops!!)

[Edit, Well these didnt post up in order!!!]

More recently, as in this year, I have made more upgrades:

Fitted Brass Bushings to the suspension Pivots, properly cleaned & renovated the chassis, and fitted new steering ball joints, along with an ESC.

And Enjoyed it!!

Welcome! That's quite a creation you've got there, and a great story to go with it. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Mark. It goes pretty well, even on old Nicads.

Going to Lipo it, with the same motor so I can get more fun per charge.

Welcome to the forum. That Fox is a wonderful piece of ingenuity! I love seeing creations like this. This kind of creativity is a perfect time capsule to how it was done back in the day. Thanks for all the pics!

Excellent stuff! Love the car and the story.

I hope you've got an ESC if you're planning to go lipo, I'd hate to see your pride and joy go up in smoke.
