Well since you all know by now and have read teh Tokyo show releases you don't need me to confirm the rumor is true [8D]

I will comment that the Frog and other buggies were display at the 44th Shizuoka hobby show. I was there and Tamiya Inc. was testing to see what the most popular old Tamiya Buggies were. As you guess it the Frog came out with top honors and won its chance for re-birth.

Specs? As soon as this info is offically released I can tell you.

What's next? Only the rumor mill will breath life into that one!

I would beg to differ. If you ask anyone here, I bet 75% of the people either had a hornet or a frog for their first vehicle. Tamiya is banking on nostalgia. Back in the day, I couldn't have cared less about the bruiser. They weren't great sellers as they were super expensive and eventually had to be discounted so they would sell. Even the Mountaineer which could be considered a re-re didn't do too well either.

Maybe you never wanted one back then , but me personaly , I would have traded everything I had at the time for one from the first time I saw a Bruiser[;)]. But like you say , being a kid at the time there was no way to afford one let alone try and talk the parents into buying one [8)]. Though I still bet they didnt have one at that show [:P] .....

Back in the Day not only was the Bruiser more expensive it also was not really built for racing. I was more into racing and was looking for a good racing buggie. The Frog was great for racing and for its time IMHO was the best car.

Agree, not only runners but also shelf queens, as due to the old Frog faults its not unlikely that the chassis will be signifiacntly different, will be fun to watch then the "investors" faces who rushed to sell their originals [}:)]

I just hope they come with all the different gear ratios, so I can finally get the wire clip for the spur gear (part no "f 2"), and then I can start playing with sum more gear ratios on my Mudblaster.

I probably buy one just for the compatible spare parts for my mudblaster, the rest who knows.

Personally, I hope this does lead to the re-release of the Brat. I love the Frog as a buggy but for me the Brat was far more interesting and I was never able to get one as a kid. If this release mirrors the Hornet re-release with the top model on that particular chassis being released first and the then the lower specd. one, you never know your luck. It can't be that hard with 380 motors in production. All you need are the tyres and the body. Fingers crossed hey.

If only they could have the re-release out before X-mass. I could see them having very good sales if they were available before X-mass.

Personally, I find the Brat disappointing, for one main reason - the real Subaru was 4WD, but the Frog chassis is only 2WD! Don't get me wrong, the Brat hard shell is nice and all, but what annoyed me is that the Brat has a 4WD decal on the side, and it's 2WD!

That, and the stock Brat doesn't have rear oil dampers nor a differential (although not having a diff isn't necessarily bad off-road). I do prefer the steering linkage on the Brat though, as it's symmetrical.

Plus the Brat shell just doesn't look right on the Frog chassis. I would have immensely preferred a more scale 4WD chassis to go with the body. In fact (and I'm going to get flamed for this), I find that all the Monster trucks (Blackfoot, Monster Beetle, Mud Blaster etc.) based on the Frog chassis look equally as awkward.

I like the Brat but I do agree about it looking a little odd on the Frog type chassis, you can also mount the Brat body on an SRB chassis, that's what the removable plastic part on truck bed is for, so it fits over the SRB gearbox apparently, never seen one though, perhaps I'll try it myself.

not being funny or anything but i cant read jap or most probably alot of people on here

lol

id="quote">id="quote">

The word "Jap" is a derogatory word and since you don't have to pay by the letter here on TC its okay to spell it all the way out. As for translating it, you can try altavista's translator here http://babelfish.altavista.com/translate.dyn

Wow! Just had another look at that site and saw the Ferrari F40 on there as well! I guess it will only be a matter of time before the Nissan R91CP will be re-released!

So it sounds like there will be no change to the design. Good. What would be the point of re-releasing these cars and then modifying them anyway? The whole point of the re-releases is nostalgia and they are aimed squarely at the 30 something age group. These cars are never going to win races against the modern buggies so keep the old-school releases faithfull to the original design. I could live with a slight tweak to internal components such as gears and improving tolerances etc but only if the cosmetics are unchanged. Start meddling with the cosmetics and you defeat the object of the whole re-release excercise.

I hope they release it with the original hex joints, for these reasons...

1. Several other cars use the same hex joints, so releasing the Frog unchanged means they'll be able to get spares easily, and...

2. If you look after the hex joints by keeping their boots sealed with zip ties and packed with clean grease, they're NOT that bad! My original Frog still has its first set, and it was driven LOTS. The front suspension wore out before the hex shafts.

The diff is also fine, provided you don't run it with too hot a motor. I never had problems with mine using the standard kit motor. If you want to run anything reasonably hot with it eg less than 23T, you're going to have problems with the gearbox sides flexing and the diff spreading. I am wondering if the gearbox sides will be revised, or if they will update it with a stronger metal.

I also hope they keep everything the same. I am even going to install a MSC to make it looks more like the original.

Also having the cars the same will allow me to put my origianl Frog back on the track. Really looking forward to this re-release it can't get here soon enough.
