The new steel pinion I ordered was delivered today.  I decided to split the difference between 13t and 15t and went with a 14t pinion.  I’ll be upgrading the 540 motor with something soon which is another reason I wanted to upgrade from the aluminum pinion it came with.  It looks like the original pinion has some wear on it....

Oh I miss this on first look, any info for 13Ts? I only had a steel 17T & couldn’t find anything smaller in steel. Mind is currently running a standard 15t but is too fast brushless & over heats 540s on grass with the slightly bigger Boomerang wheels. I’m looking for a steel 13T now.

Get a steel 13t pinion in 32dp. Its imperial but its almost identical to 0.8mod. I have one i run in my thunder dragon. It's a little noisier, but works well.

Took it out for a spin last night and got a decent photo or two.  That gravel gets everywhere and the dust boot on the BZ is almost useless as it needed to be disassembled too.

Have been waiting for the Shapeways triangle wheel hubs to arrive. I noticed cracks on the original 32 year old wheel hubs and should have placed an order sooner before one broke while running it.

Since shipping wasn’t going to be much different, I also ordered a few more items. Running on ashphalt comes with more damage as I was shearing off rear body clip pins so got the roll bar to be the lightening rod now.

I would have thought with the re release of the Terra Scorcher tires would be more available but not so.  I pulled the trigger on a couple of pairs of Hot Shot rear tires and wheels as those replacement tires are not as rare yet.  Plus they shouldn’t wear as quickly on asphalt as the thundershot tires.

That looks real good. Hot shot tires look fresh on the t shot.  What’s that part up by where the resistor used to go?

Thanks and it ran well today.  It’s a roll bar; check out the post further above.

Will go for two runs tomorrow and keep fingers crossed nothing will break.

That roll bar is clever, does it do what its supposed to?

The original tires come and go so quickly. I got 3 sets for my TS family as most are on something different. For running it its hard to beat the Ovals blocks for grip and wear.

It does as I’ve flipped it a few times and the first point of contact has been the roll bar instead of the clip pins and rear body posts.  SW has a rectangular roll bar and a rounded light bar available.  Since the TS body has a lot of curves on it I went with the roll bar and it doesn’t look out of place.  Both protect the rear body posts so you can’t go wrong with either.  I’ve sheared off 4 rear body posts so needed a solution.

I knew it was going to get dirtier than yesterday so I put the silver can back in it as speed wasn’t going to be needed either.

We don’t often get snow around here so had to take it out today.  An inch or so of snow would have been ideal but we got about 3 or 4 inches so it got high centred in the fresh stuff.  It did pretty good in the compact snow.  The cooler temperatures sure do limit the battery runs times though.

Had it out again for a few runs today in the snow.  The BZ was smoking hot after the first run so swapped it out for the silver can.  No need for a top speed runs when it’s like a slip and slide out there.

The thunder shot is a great machine in the snow. Yours looks right at home.

Yup, 4WD with good tread goes a long way in the snow. My brother has his Hornet from decades ago and he doesn’t wind up running it much during the winter as it gets stuck in the deeper stuff quite often.

Love the rebuild thread , gotta say I'd avoid snow with vintage plastic ! It gets really brittle and the slightest thing can crack it , its loads of fun in the snow but be super careful !

How are the 3D-printed wheel triangle things holding up in the cold?

My stock ones cracked, so I went for alloy ones from Miniature Manufacturing:

The 3D-printed ones look to be a more affordable option though.

I hear ya on the alloy triangle hubs being the stronger option.  So far the 3D triangle hubs don’t have any cracks in them from the cold weather.  I had to place a shapeways order for the body pin posts and also the roll bar so got the triangle hubs as well to save on shipping.  I was only able to find the alloy hubs from sellers in the UK or Asia and shipping would have been more and lengthier.

It took a while for these parts to arrive from HK but here they are.  Bearings for the BZ motor, brushes and a Taniya tool kit.  30+ years of using a straight bladed or Phillips screw driver is crazy considering how well the JIS screwdriver works on the heads.  I can’t believe I waited this long.

Any reason why the hop up brushes are not as long as the brushes that come with the motor. These hop up brushes look to be about 2/3rd’s the length of the original ones.
