My trf415 looks cooler than a trf420

I don't use the word cool in that context very often!

Hi

This chassis is of the same type...it would be quite simple to make the same conversion with it!

I don't see any difficulty...You could also get an older chassis... so it's cheaper.

I bet ! Why @svenb ?

That’s my question @Superluminal - is a 420 worth the effort converting ?

@juleo68 is right - it could be done fairly simply ...but why bother if he’s already built the best 934 using a 415 🤔

You're the only one who knows the answer...;)

Nobody knows.

Yes @Superluminal - similar to the 415 build by @juleo68

Question is - would it be worth it ?

Is the 420 sufficiently better than the 415 to make it worthwhile ?

Or has @juleo68 built the best 🤔

From what I can see the models evolve based on trends (anyone seen the 'new' mid-motor TC stuff right now? Isn't that a TA05?) and also the tracks. As tracks move from proper tracks on dirt or asphalt to carpet, and then grippier carpet, and then rc-specific(I think?) grippiest carpet the car designs have to evolve to be faster.

So a 420 will most likely have a more efficient driveline (summed up beautifully by this)

But if you took a new model and put it on an old style track it would probably struggle against the cars designed to run on them. And brushless motors and lipos largely get around inefficient drivetrains anyway, unless its a spec class.

So the answer is clearly, who knows

So you should buy a TRF420 and see

but why bother...

The interest is only in the passion to get to the bottom of things...

Tell yourself that everything that is useless...is essential! Or just for the passion or the challenge.

If you'r interested by the file (DXF), please let me know, I can provide you!

Go-ahead!

Thanks @juleo68 - I’ll take you up on that offer :)

Tamiya just released more 420 hop ups - which suggests a pimped X or M chassis bundle can’t be far away ...

The 415MSX @juleo68 used was pretty much the perfect start point for a 934 conversion as it already included a lot of hop ups you’d otherwise buy piecemeal

Will keep my eyes peeled for a suitable 420 bundle then check back here 👀

The TRF420 was just released. Most of the TRF420 hop-ups are for different cars to run TRF420 suspension bits or just to tune the chassis a bit differently for different track conditions. The TRF420 rear toe hop-up looks cool though. There isn’t going to be any game-changing or even “better” TRF420 released for several years. It will mostly just make a couple of minor tweaks or the thickness of the carbon or aluminum plates. If you want to do the project, do it now.

A 230mm wheelbase TRF420 Porsche 934 would definitely be really cool. No car is “best” though. It all depends on what metrics you are basing it on. The TRF420 934 will stand out only because that is Tamiya’s current most expensive, newest, and top competitive chassis. That is what you get cool points for, but in a few years when touring cars progress, it will lose a lot of its panache.

For me, a RWD, rear-motored 934 with lots of blue aluminum, shiny carbon-fiber, and TRF420 suspension would be very slick.

IMO the ultimate 934 chassis is the one that came with the body in the first place, the 49400 230mm Chassis
