Where to buy portal axles?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I want to convert my gf-01 to a trail version, and so I am looking for the portals from the Trail edition.

I have looked at the manual and done searches for the portal housing (“gear reduction units”) and for the individual gears themselves. So far I have not had any luck.

Anyone have any links (US retailers ideal) or know of any sellers for those parts?

Seems like a very easy conversion if only I could get the parts.

thanks!

The portals were on lockdown for a while, I couldn't find them anywhere except as part of the Dynahead. After the GF-01tr they seem to be more willing to sell the components.

The body of the portal is:  ITEM# 9115480 RC R PARTS: 58660

https://www.tamiyausa.com/shop/7-digit-spare-parts/rc-r-parts-58660/

The gears I believe are all included in the 'B' bag (but double-check this).

See attached the diagrams from the Dynahead manual:

Following up, as best I can tell the components inside the portal are

9803148, Rc Cup Joint: 58660

9803149, Rc Wheel Axle: 58660

9803150, Rc Axle Gear Set: 58660

Then you've got a few bearings and an e-ring to finish up the build.

19803149 WHEEL AXLE (MB14 X2)

Anybody successful in buying ALL those parts together, outside of Japan?

How much would they add up to?

I am currently awaiting on a price for a complete set from Tony's Tamiya Parts. I asked him the same question a little while ago. He is pricing it up for me. At last check just the casings were £35

Those £35 R parts come as pair or full set? :( Jeebus!

Thought I saw someone last year try to sell the portal parts from G6-01TR kit for around 140squid.

Otherwise buying a TR kit and trying to resell kit for price of nonTR kit might be only way to get them reasonably priced.

FWIW I decided it was just easier to buy the GF01tr (Monster Beetle trail) and put a different body on it. The MB body doesn't really fit well anyway.

I sold a set of new full portal set from one of my Dynahead kits for £50 down from £75, they didn't sell easily

Really does seem like buying a Trail kit and stealing the portals, and then selling off the kit, might be more cost-effective.

Certainly seems more convenient!

I'd buy the slightly dearer dynahead instead, for my second dynahead, I sold the portals and converted it to a normal g6-01

I have asked Tony before and it came out to big bucks, I wanted (still do) want to do a portal conversion on my MF-01X.

I don’t think Tamico are shipping to the UK at the moment because of the Brexit changes.
