wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted January 24, 2021 This is what you are left with when you remove the old servo and circuit board.. If you want to keep originality but gain reliability,, keep the original motor and just fit a cheap brushed ESC, 2s lipo, servo and receiver.. plenty of space inside.. I think the standard motor should be good for 3s which will give a big increase in performance..
wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted January 28, 2021 Got some new tyres. From the SW-01. Bigger profile than the bald originals. Narrower and taller..but much more "buggy" than the rally blocks..
wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted February 1, 2021 Had an idea ages ago to fix my melted gearbox, the motor got too hot, melted and moved destroying the gearbox. Hacksaw the end off the old original motor. It's a perfect fit, screw holes perfectly line up. Had to shape it a bit to clear the gears, might file it a bit more, but it's looking like a good fix
Kukkuluuruu 0 Posted February 2, 2021 Thanks @wolfdogstinkus for all the information. I have been too busy with work lately and I'm trying to read your posts later. I'm sure that I will have additional questions for you
wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted February 2, 2021 I had a problem with my repaired gearbox. I bolted it all up with it locked in high gear Squeezed the trigger a little and it spun the wheels, got to half way, still no problems. I had the gearbox in my hand at this point, not attached to the car, just wired up. Squeezed the trigger full blast, and the gearbox exploded in half breaking all 3 screw holes.. oops.. I also managed to snap 2 motor shafts by having the mesh too tight I guess?. So not a good weekends testing. Got a mark 2 up and running and still got the old one minus a gearbox, (I have a spare somewhere so will rebuild at some point.) But to add more bad news,.... I think the smaller rally block tyres are faster but I haven't confirmed yet because it's been too wet..
wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted February 2, 2021 Currently fitted a Goolrc 2435 can size 4000kv motor. It fits perfectly and you can even get the heatsink in there, I've fitted it since taking this picture. 25kg steering servo, total overkill but it's all I had. 35amp EZRUN ESC, runs 3s lipo and fully programmable.. Flysky receiver 2.4ghz. 3s lipo. Steering servo saver taken from kit parts.. Tie rods made with a cut down M3 bolt and 5mm Tamiya adjusters and 5mm brass ball ends.. I like to cable tie stuff down but it's up to you how you fix it all in..
wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted February 2, 2021 Battery box is currently empty. But these fit in there perfectly, and I could easy get 2 in there....... I'll have to do some maths and see if the brushed motor will get close to the rpm of the 7800kv EZRUN motor, I don't think it will. Lol. Naaaaa, don't think so, will probably just get another brushless motor for it..
wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted March 8, 2021 I just found some new tyres.. Perfect fit and still soft.. And here's the part number,.

Jimbothejetsetter 4 Posted March 14, 2021 Hi Terry, Thanks for the kind offer, however I think postage costs to the UK would be more than the parts. Jimbo

wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted March 14, 2021 I got 2 new motors, because I broke 2 during my last maintenance.. It's a "Surpass hobby 2430 4 pole 8200kv" On paper, it's the fastest motor I've had so far,,,, but it's only rated for 2s lipo,.... My ESC will take 3s and the motors are cheap enough to sacrifice for a speed run..
wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted March 14, 2021 So I spent some time yesterday making up two runners from all the spares I've collected.. I have one with a Goolrc 4000kv, and the other with the surpass hobby 8200kv.
wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted March 14, 2021 Modified heat sink,,.. don't know if it will make any difference but the heat sink got really hot with the goolrc on 3s..

wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted March 14, 2021 I think it's just the ESC, the battery wires were melted by the time I managed to locate them within all the smoke.. I liked this ESC and it is rated for 3s..
wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted March 14, 2021 This was it's final run before it decided to take up smoking..
wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted March 14, 2021 The damage,. Mostly hot glue and melted esc, maybe I shouldn't use hot glue on electronics? This'll polish out,,
