Hi all,

I have just finished my balzer resto (or so I thought) I ran it for the first time yesterday and after only a very short time I seem to have stripped the spur gear - doh!

My problem is that I have sourced parts from different places for this car and the motor, gearbox and pinion all came from different people. The pinion I have has 10 teeth, is made from steel (should it be brass?) and has a grub screw to secure it to the motor shaft, but only has about 5mm of useable width (teeth)that can be in contact with the spurgear, is this correct?

Looking at the spur gear it has stripped but only half way across the gear as this is the maximum I can extend the pinion into the gearbox case before the grub screw fouls the teeth of the spur gear.

I have looked through the manual and on the web for photos/diagrams but all seem to show the motor fitted to the gearbox, I did find an exploded diagram (bruiser/mountaineer) of the gearbox but it was not clear on that either.

Basically if the pinion is not correct (seems too short) then I need a new pinion and as a result of the damage I now need a new spur gear aswell.

If someone could kindly take a photo of the motor/pinion they have fitted to there 'standard' blazer/hilux I would be most greatful.

Thanks

Karl

I sold the pinion to Tony which is the correct one , Dangerbus you dont have the right one .

On the Hilux and blazer its a brass pinion gear which is pressed on to the motor , theres no grub screw.

I also had a spur gear but sold that also .[:0] sorry

Thanks guys for the replies, at least it confirms I have the wrong pinion - Doh!

On the bright side, at least if I get hold of the correct pinion then I have half a spur gear still to use!

Thank again

hi

a year ago i looked into the pinion gear's of the motor.

tower hobby's had quite a few listed in the 10 tooth style.

you will need to measure the length of yours and for sure make sure a new one will engage the spur gear.

i had the numbers but have lost them some time back.

all my trucks i had all came with a steel pinion that was pressed on.

i do have 1 new spur gear left in stock.
