90s Mad Bull

Picked this bargain up on gumtree last week 

 

 

it’s from the 90s I believe 

Came with box, instructions, transmitter, MSC, battery and charger

its in excellent condition and has hardly been run at all 

 

 

so why is this a build thread??

well the paint is shocking tbh

 

 

it’s been painted with a brush and the paint applied v thickly 

so it’s time to redo the shell 

I have some unused stickers in the box

 

so I started to strip the shell using the bbq cleaner from b&q

 

liberal application and wrapped in a plastic bag 

took about 3 applications and still left some bits

the rest I will attach with some paint remover 

just working out a plan for paint now

Interesting arrangement with the steering servo - I wonder if that is why it has hardly been used? I'd guess it wouldn't turn very well set up like that...

Yeah I think something has failed tbh 

its on my list to look at

either servo is stripped or It’s just incorrectly assembled 

it’s defo not “connected” though

thw servo had no saver on it and the horn was upside down - no idea why tbh.

fixed though now 

I am missing a battery stay (part A3) so looking for parts without having to buy the £12 parts tree

And now in the process of working through a bodywork design now it’s stripped

so lightly primed in white etching primer 

 

plan is for an orange stripe down the middle and matte black 

orange laid down..

 

but obviously just doing a stripe is too easy 

so I masked off the whole car so just the stripe was showing and hydro dipped it 

 

 

desired effect achieved 

once its dried I will mask off the stripe and paint the rest of the car matte black and potentially apply some of the remaining stickers

So laid done the black yesterday 

masked up almost everything but tried to create orange accents where possible 

 

scary to peel off the masking tape to see if the Hydro dipped pattern stayed

but it did...

 

and apart from some minor overspray it looks great

just out of interest how did you hydro drop that effect? I’d like to experiment with this sort of thing in the future

Hydro dipping is easy

i just masked off where I don’t want the film to stick (same as painting)

Cut out film

tape edges 

 

 

lay on 34 degC water 
 

 

 

apply activator spray and leave for 1min

pass item through at 45deg angle 

 

 

this is how I masked up the grasshopper 2

None of the stickers actually go with the car now (there were only a few left over) so finishing touch...

 

got some orange dye on way and I’ll do the wheels and see what they come out like

That is pretty cool. IF you use it much it will improve massively with shocks. Also worth doing the steering mod as its woo full.

Here is my daughters, I just got a sheet of red vinyl and cut some stick on stripes to lay over the baby pink.

I made one from another bit of unused parts tree, its a flip version so I can change the battery faster, no r clip to lose or pull out with numb fingers will see if I can get you a photo (use anything hat works)

So I tried to dye the wheels 

I now have 4 perfectly yellow and hugely misshaped wheels

 

what other wheels fit the madbull and tyres?
