As those who have read the thread in the General section will know, the other day it struck me that with all of the hop-ups that came with my TT-02 Type S kit, along with all those that I added as the build progressed, I have the best part of a standard TT-02 in parts left over.

2020-02-10_11-04-43

My first thought was that I'd best keep them in case I needed them at some point, but having experienced the joys of a TT-02 Type S, I don't think I'd ever want to go back to vanilla. My next thought was to give them away to someone with a vanilla TT-02, but then I had an even better idea - why not turn them into a complete TT-02, and then either raffle or auction it off in aid of Cats Protection (https://www.cats.org.uk)?

I floated the idea in the General section of the forum, and it didn't take long for positive responses to be posted by @Grotty Otty@Superluminal and @Grumpy pants, all offering parts and accessories towards the build.

Which brings us to this thread, which will chronicle the build as it progresses.

Two exciting packages arrived in the post today, and were duly inspected by Lynton:

Inside was a goodly selection of parts courtesy of @Superluminal and @Grotty Otty:

There are still a few bits that are needed to make a complete chassis, but this is an excellent start! Thanks guys!

Thats not far off two chassis' worth! Im sure we can scrape some more bits together.

The only thing thats going to be a bit of a struggle is the body posts as they are on a sprue with all the suspension arms (unfortunately ive not got them spare)

Aye, there will be a few bits that are likely to be more difficult to source, such as the body posts, spur gear cover and propshaft bearing holder, which tend to get used no matter what flavour TT-02 one is building. Hopefully we will find someone who has fitted alloy or different coloured plastic versions and has the standard ones going spare.

So, looking at what we have so far and comparing it to the standard TT-02 manual, this is what we still need:

Bevel pinion gear GB2

Propshaft bearing holder D2

Spur gear cover D3

Servo mounts A12 x 2

Aerial mount D12

Body posts B5 & B6 x 2

Kingpin pivot balls P7 x 4

ESC

Bodyshell

Foam bumper

Hinge pins

Probably a stack of 3x10mm self tapping screws - I have some spare, but not enough four a whole car I don't think

Is anyone out there able to spare any of the above items?

Moggies (mogs for short) are domestic cats of no particular breed - the sort of cats typically cared for by Cats Protection.

The sprues containing the parts we need are easy to find, but the parts we need off said sprues are typically the ones that people buy the sprues for, so they are unlikely to be the sorts of things people will have sitting around in their spares stash.

However if you or anyone else is willing to donate any new sprues, that would be fantastic! The parts we need are on the following sprues:

A parts - 51527

B parts - 51528

D parts - 51530

P parts - 51006

G parts - 51531

...as well as various screw bags.

As for the motor, I have a silver can I am happy to put towards the build, but  @TwistedxSlayer's offer of a TBLE-02 has me thinking that it might be nice to fit it with a brushless "bluebottle" instead. I think the better we spec the car, the more money we'll be able to raise with it.

Not much of a cat person more dogs but I've a soft spot for anything furry.

This lot any use?

Sure I have more bits but can't find at the moment.

Yes please! Those screws, pivot balls and hinge pins would be particularly useful, as would the pinion. 👍

While there are still parts to be gathered, I thought I might make a start with the parts already present.

First order of business was to clean up the chassis. Although perfectly usable from a structural perspective, the tub shows some signs of use, and I figure that the better-presented the completed model, the more funds we'll be able to raise with it.

After a thorough cleaning and a light sanding on the bottom with 1000 grit, it is already looking much better.

Now to go at it with polish, and see if it can be improved further...

With a bit more elbow grease, the chassis is looking quite shiny:

I'm not too worried about the marks in the equipment bay as they will be pretty much hidden by the motor, servo and receiver when they are installed, and I am thinking of lining the battery bay with some thin self adhesive felt or EVA which will both look nice and help secure the battery.

The scratches on the underside are purely cosmetic, no worse than one would expect to see on a new chassis after its first run on tarmac, but I am going to take it into work tomorrow and hit it with the polishing gear that we use to restore TV cabinets and suchlike to see if I can get it looking even better.

Good effort!

Hopefully the rest of the parts will arrive soon. If not when I next order something from Tony im sure a few more bits can be added on that will help out if needed.

Today I ran the underside of the chassis through the polishing process at work, which made a bit of a difference. I think it is as good as it is going to get...

Now to start turning it into a car!

A package of parts arrived today, kindly donated by @TwistedxSlayer:

In addition to the TBLE-02 that opens up all sorts of exciting brushless possibilities, I was delighted to find that the package also contained a spur gear, two diff pinions, a spur pin securing thing and a pair of alloy hexes. This means that we now have all the gears we need for a complete car, and several towards a second one! 👍

I also received notification that a package is on its way from @svenb, so soon we'll be able to screw things together too!

Thanks to @svenb we now have a good selection of screws and fixings, as well as kingpin pivot balls, a pinion and several other potentially useful pieces:

Hoping to start assembly over the next few evenings. Watch this space!
