Going to need forum support with this one.

The TB01 is known for being a heavyweight  so I stuck it on some scales to see just how heavy. I started with the TB01 rally car. Then moved onto my GPM chassis TB01 and finally the Tamiya Carbon frame with hop ups.

 

Id like to try and compile a list of all standard models just for the fun of it really.

 

Must be fitted with electrics. No batteries.

 

 

 

 

Standard TB01 Rally Car - 1250g

GPM TB01 Touring Car - 1133g

Hop up TB01 Touring Car - 1111g

Yes. Stock is good or the list of hop ups of its pimped.

Got a few for you...  Note that the weights for ESC, motor, servo, servo, hopups, wheels, tires, bodies, and paint can vary, so if we're posting weights with fully finished vehicles then it's an approximation at best.  It would be better to post weights of freshly-built stock chassis with no electronics, wheels, tires, or bodies installed so it's a consistent comparison.  Then it would be good to post weights of individual electronics, batteries, hopups, wheels/tires, and clear bodies so someone can do a 'virtual build' with this database of weight information.

M05 = 1067 grams

TT01R Type E = 1171 grams

=

TT02 = 1199 grams

TB03 = 1214 grams

TB04 PRO (v1) = 1253 grams

So it turns out I actually have 4 onroad cars (they breed right?). These are all with bodies and wheels and tyres.

TRF102 - 895 grams (Speed Passion Renton R and 21.5, Trackstar D99X, Sanwa 47T). The kit is stock, no hopups, but its a TRF, it shouldn't need hopups.

F130 - 830 grams. Not sure on hopups as bought secondhand but has a few. Silvercan, TBLE-02S, old standard servo, futaba rx

TT02D R33 GTR (not the D chassis kit) - 1193grams. All stock including drift plastic tyres, JX PDI 4409MG. Its the one with bearings, sport tuned, CVA but not the stiffer steering and other gray parts.

TA07 Pro - 1182grams. This is half way to an R, sort of. Carbon fibre stiffeners (F&R, not centre, thats in the spares box) swaybars, alloy wheel hexes, Active Hobby servo mount, alloy suspension mounts, carbon fibre damper shock mounts, alloy motor plate mounts, alloy counter pulley. And maybe others. The body is a Bittydesign MC10.

Bitsa TT02 Type S - Hop ups include carbon towers, alloy hexes, alloy prop shaft, TA05 battery strap, full bearings, alloy battery mounts, alloy motor mount, stainless screws, lightweight stepscrews for steering, 38mm unis front. Sorex28s, 17.5 Rocket V3 blinky electrics, hobbywing 10bl60 esc, Thercracer carbon centre stiffener

1016 grams

TA06 - Effectively -R spec. All reinforced plastics, including shock towers for 55mm shocks. Yeah racing shocks, Arrow racing front unis, TRF419 arms, uprights and c-hubs, alloy suspension blocks, alloy bearing steering, anti roll bars. Again, 17.5 blinky electrics, but 10BL120 ESC here. Sorex 28s, 4mm wide alloy hexes. 

1110 grams. Nearly 100 grams more than the TT02! Even considering i run a shorty battery in this compared to a full size pack in the 02, this will be at least 50 grams heaving ready to run. Interesting....

from recent readings i found use the HSS (Black stock)screws bottom of chassis, and the alum./titanium screws top side. i'am no racer but i like to build to their specs for the fun of it when it's applicable.

But we’re going to need some baselines or weights are meaningless 

Would it be good to start with stock builds, then add OEM hop ups ?

Much easier then to gauge the impact of aftermarket bits ?

I agree that would be ideal, but I can't be bothered converting my TA07 back to stock and then re-hop-upping it to what I want to run.  I have all the stock bits still though so could.  My other 3 were mostly stock.  Maybe it should be no bodies and wheels though?

Except for a full bearing kit (24 bearings instead of 24 plastic washers) my stock 1988 Thundershot weighs in at 1287g.  Replacing the MSC with an ESC drops it down to 1216g.

The F103 came in at 830grams...

There isn't that much between the touring cars which is a surprise. I expected the TT02 to be much heavier that the others. I guess they're all tub chassis though

Mine came in at 1368g

It does however feature a wing, 4 shocks, a heavy duty propshaft and a few other valid excuses for its portliness.

I weighed in all my cars sans body shell, as those change from run to run. So what we're looking at here are the bare minimum weights for each chassis. Chassis + wheels + electronics. Nothing more.

Tamiya TT01EDR Cup Racer, 1076 gr
Hop ups: Too many to name, but none of them should really affect weight. (Things like adjustable upper arms for caster, ball bearings, toe-in blocks in the rear). I threw in a seat of rear body posts in the battery box, as I've been experimenting with bodies and they're off. Only noteworthy hop-up is a titanium screw set. 

 

TRF419, 997 gr
Mostly stock, with the exception of a Beserk RC battery holder and an embiggened front bumper to suit my current body shell. 

Not a Tamiya, but certainly one in spirit, my BSR Racing M.rage 4WD M-chassis, 907 gr.
Hop-ups: Relevant? M-chassis body post set, custom front bumper, rear track wideners.

M02 Short wheelbase, 854 gr. I'm surprised at how light this thing is.
Hop-ups: Ball bearings and modern electronics. That's it.

CC01, 1525 gr.
Hop-ups: Junfac 4-link set. GPM steering set, TT02 radio box, ball bearings, HobbyKing RC switch for the light set, and a bunch of mud on the tires.

Yeah, I had to break out the person-scale for this. And that thing is difficult to photograph with the backlit LCD that turns off after a few seconds. But after about 8 attempts I managed to get it to settle at 3.6kg. Yeah. She's a hefty one.

Lighter than I thought it would be, must be the titanium screws! 

Same weight as my f103gt which has heavy two piece wheels.

My TB-01 Ferrari Enzo 58298 as standard with the original mechanical speed controller weighing 1320gr. Got an TEU-105 BK esc and a few hop ups to lightening it up and also needs painting

As you wish Sir! 

Pleased with both of those. 1052 for the TB03 is a solid 58grams lighter than the TA06, although interestingly not quite as light as the TT02 Type S I had. Not same wheels and tyres though. 

FF03 4GR at 1001 is a not as much lighter than the 4wd than i was expecting, but i guess the gearcase and drivetrain is heavier, plus the rear suspension is mounted on that massive plastic square block for wheelbase adjustment. Still, not bad and it drives great. Would have been nice to be a round 1000 though! 😉

Yes. Tamiya TD4 Super Avante with alloy diff nuts, slipper and metal bevel gears and BL system: 1469g

TB-01, stock apart from bearings, steel pinion, alloy motor mount and carbon shock towers:

1233g

 

TA-02, stock apart from bearings, steel pinion, alloy motor mount, alloy steering rack, alloy front uprights and hardened steel propshaft:

1124g

 

TT-01, stock apart from bearings, steel pinion, DF-02 metal diffs, alloy propshaft, alloy steering rack, alloy upper suspension arm mounts, alloy heatsink with fan, carbon upper deck, CVAs and shaved diff outdrives:

1065g
