Konghead shock upgrade

Looking for Konghead shock upgrade recommendations. Bought  cheap sets by 3Racing from RCMart but they are junk (leak) and Tamiya hop ups are hard to find and pricy. Any tips appreciated. Thanks!

I’ve gone for the same On my KH as on my Heavy Dump Truck, the CC01 alloy hop ups. Dunno why but I prefer them to the blue version.

CVAs will work way better than the kit bounce sticks. If you buy 53619 and 50519 that will get you 6 shocks and just use the kit springs.

Gmade with Yeah racing alloy works well. Go for thicker shock oil. Middle shocks won't fit without some sort of adapter to allow the shocks enough clearance. Just a C shaped thingy with holes for the shocks and mounting holes to where the original shocks should be.

No mods, the hop up comes with the fixings & you reuse the kit springs. (Assemble) Plug n play type thing

Thanks. Going with the CC-01. Any oil weight advice for bashing?

The oil they come with seems ok, think it’s just Tamiyas ‘soft’ type

I find the stock soft oil works quite well but things can get a bit springy with bigger obstacles and jumps etc. If you find it's under damped for your lining, I would suggest trying a piston change rather than oil change. The discs make a much bigger difference than oil, especially if you use the Tamiya oil set which doesn't have a very big range in viscosity. Great for fine tuning but not for making big adjustments.

For example, I found my heavy dump truck to be too bouncy using CVAs and the stock springs. I went from soft oil (approx 400cst) to 1000cst and it made little noticable difference. I had to go up to 2000 or 2500 I think to get a really nice amount of damping.

When I rebuilt the shocks later on, I tried the discs with 1 hole and that made it work really well even with the soft oil!

Bear in mind this was with the CVA, the cc01 hopup type might work differently out of the box.

Out of interest did you put the 50519’s on the front Cy?

Just re-read my build thread. Seems I did, with the longer eyelet, but I felt they needed softer springs than the kit ones for trail truck type driving. I didn't keep it long or really get it figured out though.
