This is great news. So many re-releases of sweet classics! With the Thunder Shot coming I wonder if theres any chance a re-release of the original Hot Shot will be coming in the near future?

This is so awesome though, but I'm still waiting for the "GRAND FINALE" of a Metal Chassis base re-release. Maybe a Bruiser!!??[:D]

Good days to come in the future.[8D]

that would be nice a re-release of the metal chassis, but then again hardly no one will buy them look at the mountaineer not many folks bought it when it was out, but then again monster trucks back then didnt cost 600 bucks either like todays prices. guess I gotta sell everything to get all the re-release...[:D]

On the subject of re-releases... what about a porsche 959 [:P]!! or something on this chassis. This was a sort of 'limited edition model'which most of us could only druel over.

Why should Tamiya destroy their moulds? Only if they are completely worn. I don't think that this is the case. Pachila, what makes you so sure about this?

I would not be interested in a 959 because the car has such a small scale, only 1:12. What other cars are left to race against except for the Toyota rally?

I think Tamiya is doing too many re-releases at the moment. They should put their effort into putting 4WD offroading back to the top. This was once the "Königsklasse" = the top class in RC.[:(!]

I think that confirms the fact Tamiya are not listening to us at all - lol, unless I missed the bring back the Mantaray and Thundershot threads. Mantaray is an odd choice unless its just another easy hit, as I struggle to see who would but the old kit version over the newer XB version that was released some time ago. Thundershot is just out of left field - where did that one come from? There has got to be some financial aspect or production technicalities (maybe loss of old parts and plans for some models) I think we are missing that driving these kits, if it were down to just the collector market (and in part to reading this forum) there would be a dozen models further up most peoples desirability list than the Thundershot - not just SRBs either, what about the hotshots, supershot,boomerang, bigwig,wildone, etc etc

I'm surprised a Holiday Buggy/Sand Rover isn't in the works. They're probably really cheap to make since they're mostly plastic, are actually functional off road, and they look great. Those two would be great for the collector/shelf queen side, and the runner side of the hobby!

I believed it is because the license problem with Porsche back then. Porsche demanded more and more on the license fees so Mr. Tamiya got fed up and destroyed 959's mold. This is as far as I know.

Hey Guys,

Just a thought but isn't the whole re re thing the best news ever to hit vintage rc collectors! even if you are not a fan of the newer versions it means previously hard to get parts are readily available and just LOOK at the the forums. People are jumping up and down with excitement and the threads are flying!

How can this be a bad thing!!

All re-res have some logic behind, Thunder Shot was the first of a chassis series, same also for Manta Ray which also was something like a forefather of the TA01 chassis (first tourers from Tamiya), Top Force was an evolution stage of MR and Tamiyas 100th RC kit. Also they released already more then enough desired kits for this year (GH, Hornet, LB, Frog) so if they would do immediately now Hot Shot, Avante etc they wouldn't have interest of the vintage fans in the future, I think they are giving us little bites time by time to keep the hunger up. Also we shouldn't forget that for Tamiya the Japanese market is the most important and those cars could be much desired there, but in the end we can only speculate, only time will tell what will come...

but what is the crack with the expert built lunchbox???????????

id="quote">id="quote">

All the rest of the re-rels only appeal to 30+ who had them when first out (or wanted them). Lunchbox has much wider appeal - loads of kids keep looking at my demo one and saying they want one, but I've never heard any of them showing the slightest interest in the Grasshopper or Hornet I've got on display...

id="quote">id="quote">

funny you say that cause my son also wants a lunchbox after playing with mine a couple of weeks back.

i think it could be due that its just a wheelie machine and it looks looks propper bo.[:D]

Lots of people have puzzled over why Tamiya has chosen the cars it has for re-release. I think their plan is to re-release a few from each time period to maximize their market. Look at the years the cars were first released: Sand Scorcher (1979), Frog/Hornet/Grasshopper (1983-4), Lunch Box/Thundershot (1987-8), and Manta Ray/Top Force (1990-1).

As many people have commented, the biggest market for the re-releases is probably people who had or wanted those cars when they were kids. But kids only tended to stick with the hobby for a few years. As a result, different collectors will remember and have primary interest in different parts of Tamiya's production range. For example, I was into r/c circa 1990. I vividly remember the Avante, Vanquish, Egress, Astute, King Cab, and Hilux but had never heard of a Sand Scorcher or a Dyna Storm before I found this site.

I would guess that the better the sales of each re-released car, the more likely Tamiya is to re-release others from that era.

I think they included manta ray in the list because it shares many parts with the top force, maybe Im wrong since I never had one, Im only looking at people's showroom and wait for December....

The porsche 959 would be the ultimate re-release for me,as i remember when i was a kid the lad down the road having one with working lights and the technigold motor when i had my beat-up hotshot.Are the guys from tamiya listening.Still have my original manta-ray.

I don't know if the 959 "mold" was destroyed or not. It was reverse molded. Layed up inside a 2 piece (I think) mold instead of over a standard mold/plug. I think it was the only Tamiya lexan body made this way to allow the swept under portions. I have never seen a "good" 959 body shell from Tamiya. The lexan had to be pulled too thin in many areas.

Hello,

i can tell you first hand that Tamiya's research Dept. watches this site, Ebay and many other Tamiya Enthusiast related sites. I have submitted numerous emails and letters to Tamiya about re-issues of these vintage kits and re-releasing the Metal Buggies like Sand Scorcher, Rough Rider, Super Champ and the Tranny Trucks. until recently Tamiya's reply was always "We will take your suggestions into consideration". Now their latest reply said "All of these kits are on our re-release Horizon for 2006 - 2007". So keep supporting these sites, forums and email Tamiya once in a while about re-issuing your favorite kits and it will eventually happen.

<Re: Robby Hobby's e-mails to Tamiya>

Superb! Great Job mate [^][^][^][^][^][:)]

Looks like a lot of TC peoples' persistence is beginning to pay off and Tamiya is beginning to see (thanks to this Web Site and Forums) that these Vintage re-releases mean a LOT to us because we want to see SCALE buggies and vehicles with nice detailed Styrene bodies and none of the modern bland rubbish that all looks generic and identical.

Also I hope that Tamiya also notice that us same enthusiasts (thousands of us) in our late 20's / early 30's age (I'm 31) have a more potent buying power than the kiddies and that OUR voice is worth listening to just as much as them, as we buy loads of the re-releases.

Finally I also hope that Tamiya notice that there are hundreds of us that are ALSO interested in the LATEST, STATE OF THE ART R/C models like the 1/14th Tamiya Trucks that we have and 1/16th Tanks that we have (I just bought the Leopard 2 A6 this week) so we are not daft and are not blinded by the past, we simply love to see SCALE R/C models with SOPHISTICATION and QUALITY and DETAILS.

Cheers,

Alistair G.

Crikey!! I'm not that interested in the re-releases, I prefer my originals (even if their value will depreciate - I don't collect for investment purposes) but I'll be getting a Frog re-release to run and maybe a Topforce....But I tell you what, I'd be first in line if there were Bruisers or Mountaineers on offer. 'Never really into them as a kid, but my appreciation for them is enormous as an adult!

Yes, unfortunately these re-issues will drastically bring down the value of our original kits, but i think it is well worth that risk just for us to relive the Good old days of the 80's at an affordable price and give a chance to some of the younger Tamiya Enthusiasts to see what it was like to drive these classic kits and how much technology has changed.

I have been selling off all of my original NIB kits and parts on Ebay during the last couple of months knowing that Tamiya plans to re-issue most of these wonderful classics. By doing this now, i am getting top dollar and won't have to compete with the dozens of other collectors who will be scrambling to get rid of their's as prices diminish from the official announcements of the re-issues by Tamiya.

We have to keep in mind too that most of the re-issues are being made in limited amounts and once sold out will also become collectors kits. So far i have purchased atleast 5 - 10 of each re-issue starting with the XR311 and just one year later the XR311's are selling on Ebay at more than double the purchase price. So, these are sure to hold their value and alot more in the future. Chances of Tamiya ever re-issuing these a second (3rd time) is very doubtful. By that time (another 20 + years), there will no longer be interest in them.

No matter what happens, i think it is great in every way that i will be able to buy a bunch of these classics at affordable prices and have one or two to drive and a couple to leave NIB for future plans.

I think that all tamiya needs to do is see how the current re-re are selling and take into account what is said in their emails and whats on the net to get a idea of how or if we are suggesting "good" re-res. I know from what Ive seen, the re-res are ALL sell good. I know I have one of each so far.[:)]
