All very new to this after being out the hobby for a little while but a friend has given me a hornet! Half completed and bits missing but I’m working through it slowly but surely!

I hear the hornet can be a bit prone to loosing the battery as the trays underneath? Has anyone altered there’s easily to hold it firmly in place?!

last thing I want is bits falling out!

cheers!

Member Ampro/PintoPowwer on here designed a really good part for this. You can get the peice on shapeways that alleviates the up/down suspension bob (and subsequent very annoying clicking noise) while still allowing rotation and secures the battery cover in place at the same time. Will try and find a link. I have one on mine and its great.

That’s brilliant help! I didn’t realise you had any suspension bob! Haven’t run it yet ha! But I did think myself it’s all a bit floppy out back!

how does it stop the bob out of interest? I seen some people mention a little pivot mod on the rear axle aswell to the tub?

It has a scallop shaped central tab which holds the rear axle/motor assembly in place while still allowing a rotaional movement for the two shocks to work.

Its difficult to explain in words until you have the assembled chassis in hand.

Edit to add that "bob" is not really the right word - its under acceleration the whole rear axle assembly rotates around and locks out the rear suspension. This allows the suspension to function while its accelerating

Fully understand! That’s rather neat actually! I assume the little mod stops the left right pivot of the whole rear axle assembly aswell? Might be a well worth purchase that!

actually really enjoying tinkering with a little model again. Cost me nothing so far! And managed to find some Bearings from a old project I never used so it’s all fully ball raced!

Yeah unfortunately thats shapeways for you. I tend to wait until theres a few bits i need and get them all in one go.

I have a cunning plan.

Order the inner wheel arches for the sand scorcher and the wild one engine parts as well. By the time you have all those bits and the hornet embossed battery tray the postage costs are insignificant.

Then because you have the sand scorcher wheel arches and a wild one engine you might as well buy the sand scorcher and wild one kits too right?

And then it begins............

Here's my own ghetto mod for the Hornet battery tray, just in case you still wanna keep the cost to zero.

Find a material that is spongey or rubbery but also thich and stiff enough to hold itself together. Industrial packaging or insulating material, car door gaskets trimmings, a piece of your lady's yoga mat, just get creative as so many things in your household will do the job.

Trim a suitable size piece and just jam it in that space between the battery and the tub. It has to be hard to jam in, so that it will itself hold the battery into place. Rubbery stuff'll be harder to pack in, while spongey material is easier but tends to have memory so will diminish its hold in time and will sometimes need replacement. Put the lid back and go enjoy the Hornet, end of story.

It's embarassingly simple and not as fancy as shepeways, but it's noninvasive, light, effective and costs zero. It works so well I never once dropped the battery since, not even when landing big jumps.

And I just love ghetto mods

Today i went outside with my grasshopper. The Batterydoor felt of several times.

Did anyone designed a little Stopper that you can put into the little notch/Slot on the leftside of the 2 screws??

It's been 30 years since my '86 Hornet was a runner, but we used to either use a strip of black electrical tape to hold the door on or heat the tab on the door up with hair dryer and slightly bend it so the clip would catch on the chassis.

I used black tape as well.

I oly have bad memories from electrical Tape, it leaves a super sticky residue, but the Tape itself do not stick to it :D

I love to see al that AMPro Stuff from @Pintopower, but i have to say that ordering Parts from shapeways for a Model "that poor" doesn`t justify.

The Parts are way to pricey for just a Grasshopper.

I think it would work well enough if someone would design a Clip for that Notch.

I could just jam in some piece of Metal or Plastic, but i do nt know how to secure it besides from Magnets or Tape, but Magnets wouldn`t work i imagine and Tape is not my prefered Method :D

I used an old servo horn screwed into an existing hole. Screw it tight enough to stay in position but so it can still be moved to allow tho cover to open.

thats an idea i can work with!

Thanks a lot.

Icould "design" a spring that inserts into the Notch and is secured with that Screw.
