Haha [^][:P] Wonder where my scorchers are gonna come from then...? I already paid for two...! [B)]there's one oof...! [B)] and another...!

It is entirely feasible that the Scorcher can be re-re'd, don't believe the hype that it isn't. There's a fixed cost of setting up the tools again and perhaps re-creating some old tools then it's a pro-rata cost per kit. It is totally possible but the issue is that can the cost per unit break them even and then some (ie: make a reasonable profit) given the numbers they are likely to sell and what sort of damange will it do to the brand. Anyone tell I'm, on my MBA right now...? [;)][;)][;)] As odd as it sounds a couple of hundred per kit is what I reckon it's cost based on the best info I can ascertain.

Quality wind up from Chris, it certainly did the trick - the whole deal smelled iffy from the word go, but when the big man says yes, well, it's like the man from Del Monte. Everyone goes for it. I contacted my supplier and got a couple ordered up. Seems they'll never be delivered. If they are, I'll let you know.

One of the benefits of my new course if there's two people from Japan - one from Shizuoka City...! *HUGE* bonus when it comes to communicating with ppl in Japan (ie: Tamiya themselves...!!!)

After my initial anger went away (took about 4 HOURS!!) and after some reflection I do have to say a thank you to Chris in a funny sort of a way, because I never realised before now just how much I love the Sand Scorcher, I thought previously that I only 'liked' it! [:)][:P]. It's like the saying that you don't realise how much you will miss something until it's gone!

I'm just still annoyed that in this case what is gone is any chance that I can have one for Xmas. I would have bought a few of them NIB.

Of course, the first thing that I did when I was having my supper was to watch the RR and SS videos OVER AND OVER again and appreciated the car even more!

Cheers,

Chris you sod! Next time I see you I'm gona rattle your head! [;)]

I was telling Bugsy about this while he was driving to work tonight & he's sooo excited!!! Poor ****** is gona be let down in morning when he logs on here! [:(]

Well I'm sure you put a little excitement into more than a few member's day! I'm just glad I didn't ring my LHS to tell them the news, would have looked a right idiot at work tomorrow! No problem with this little joke from me, they are only toys after all so it isn't the end of the world that this was a wind up.

It was a good joke, but I can see why some peeps are ticked off. Especially the guy that lowered his price on his Rough Rider auction and only got $475 for it. I think that once everybody seen that the post was started by Chris, that we had no reason not to believe him. You have a very powerful influence on your site Chris! It is almost "Cult-like"; the way all of us "followers" took the bait from our fearless leader!! haha! I got my hopes up, but at the same time after I saw Simens showroom pic, I started to get doubts (eventhough that had nothing to do with your fake picture). So all in all, good joke, you duped just about everybody on here.

I altered the battery graphics and other stuff on the boxes - I actually copied the modifications done on the re-released Hornet and made the same changes to the "new" SS box so that there would be some expected differences - but they didn't show too well in the blurred "spy photo". A mistake, or rather lack of time, made me forget to alter the illustration of the battery in the radiobox, which the selected test panel spotted in about 5 min.

As those are the same as original boxes, judging by the box side pictures if they are re-releasing the Scorcher they are re-releasing the 1200mah hump pack battery as well. Highly unlikely.

Or are they just repro boxes?

If they are being rereleased why has the first news of it come from the uK and not Japan?

I need more info than a blurry picture of some boxes before I believe it.

I spotted the unchanged hump pack battery! [:D][:D]

I think a lot of sceptic's were convinced by the simple way

that chris made the first post.

If any other one would have done it, everybody would say.. ehhhm.. its a joke dude!

Come on, its a joke, and , badword, it worked!

Like a previous poster said, we are talking toys, not something life-important.

The picture fooled me 100%!

I think we need a new "leader".

He took advantage of his influence.

I don't care much about re-releases myself, but others do and therefore it's...well, kinda inappropriate.

What's next?

Will it be lies?

Or the truth?

We just don't know anymore.

Or am I the only one who feels this way?

As a lover of old-scool Tamiya's, I just don't want to fool my fellow collectors (respect), not even on April 1st...(believe me, I have a reputation on that one...)

Sorry for being critical.

Just my straight opinion.

I don't get this "they can't make it because it's metal" line at all.

Production of *anything* in the far east and philippines is cheaper than it was back in the late 70's early 80's...

Most old toy makers do indeed still have most of their old molds in storage (except Corgi where many became hardcore for the building of sea defences in Wales, after Mattel bought the co, if you believe the line) so I wouldn't rule out anything!

Even real car makers keep their old production lines - example: at Longbridge the Rover 800 line in it's entirety is stored, so the Chinese could start knocking them out, and tooling travels around the world and reappears years later (e.g. other old BL cars still in production include the Marina - yes really) so there's no reason if large presses and tools from the real makers can be held that relatively small tools for toys (sorry!) couldn't be languishing in a warehouse somewhere in Japan. Probably not in Tamiya's main warehouse, but they will be somewhere - the recent re-rels have proved this to be the case.

Sit back and wait. The way things are going, it WILL happen one day. But they will sift through all the plastic models first. I suspect Chris's picture is maybe 18 months to two years away - thats all...

Phew, things seem to be quietening down - only two pages since I went to bed!

I've said it before and he it is again. I am truely sorry if this joke has upset/annoyed/cost anyone. What more can i say? When I posted it i truely thought the first reply would say 'Fake' for a whole host of reasons and I never thought anyone would actually take any sort of action over it. With hindsight i guess i underestimated the effect of the name of NetsmithUK behind it. I'll be very careful with what i post from now on.

When I was posting I didn't think people would fall for it in the way they did for lots of reasons.

- I've got no track record of 'getting the news first'

- most breaking news is from our members in asia (Dazmiester aside)

- the photo and cover story were just really vague (at the end of the day (photo or 3d) it was a pile of boxes on the floor, none even open - there was nothing official looking about it all. Any sort of launch of this magnitude would have had ticker tape and dancing girls, there would be no way all some had to show for it would be a pile of scatter boxes.

- I've do have a track record of doing 3d work, like my clod chassis (which many of the people here commented looked like photos) and various wall papers

All of these would have had the alarm bells ringing for me if had read them. Thats not to say I wouldn't have been excited, but it would have been enough to make me site back and wait for confirmation.

As soon as I realised it wasn't going how I thought I made my second post where I came clean. (even at this point I was still thinking most would see it as the joke it was intended to be)

I'm not trying to argue that people shouldn't be upset at all, just trying to explain my reasons - no malice or upset was intended and again I'm sorry if some people took it the wrong way.

I would suspend myself, even though others that have played jokes in the past have not been, but as others have pointed out, its just not feasible.

I will post a video later of me beating myself with sharp sticks.

(That also is a JOKE)

Video Video Video !!!! ;)

neh, speaking for myself of course here, i think you went "trough the dust enough" ,

more then needed imho.

Everybody pulls of a prank now and again that does not work out the way you think it would.

( i AM sorry freddy, for that rat .... )

now i will step of this box & do me some more coffee,

ow.. and search ebay for a used SS ;)

Well, i was the first to reply to the "great news", and i was TRULY happy about it.

I did think it was a bit strange that you got invited to a releaseparty, since it hasnt happened before.

But i wanted to believe it so much so...

In a post just after i did write "if something is to good to be true, it usually is"

In the end i dont think it was that funny actually, but thats just me, and alot of others

But, moving on...the Frog rerelease is something to look forward to in any case, and i dont hold a grudge (for long)

Posted

I knew it was a hoax and was the first to say so and the reason i knew this was because it defies my rule of thumb;

IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE THEN IT PROBARBLY IS.

The only thing I was sceptical about was the phto as Chris said he took the photo from his i-mate jam pda and I know that it has a good quality camera because i have one.
