Many many years ago I loved a tinker with  arc car here and there. Many models bought, many models sold.
Time went by, and other things in life popped up and the hobby turned into a ‘i will have a go next weekend’ sort of deal. A weekend turned to a month, a month a year  etc etc, and everything was shelved and forgot about! But I always fancied another little basher at some point!

recently a friend who has no patience and to many hobbies bought a hornet! Half built it. Then gave up! While round his house one day, I spotted it in a back of a cupboard.
‘have it mate! I’m never going to finish it! And so the little free hornet was mine! Over the moon!

im trying to keep costs to a minimum, so the old parts pot was raided! He gave it to me with a clear shell, no decals, lights etc. Which is a shame but it’s purely for fun so will crack on!

quick rummage. Half a can of neon pink found, half a white. IDEA. Cost to finish shell £0. Purists will hate it. But I actually quite like it haha!

LOVELY JOB!
next up, after a bit more of a rummage in the box. I found a packet of Carson bearings for a tt01. Ive never owned a tt01 so no idea how I came about it. But at least they fit! And it’s fully ball raced! Another freebie for the hornet.

Now we best get the car actually moving! He gave me the Tamiya esc and a 540 can. But again while in the garage I stumbled across a little brushless set up! This has only been chucked in the car to make sure it works at the moment. But a little hobbywing 60a esc and 3200 motor should see the hornet moving along a bit quicker than the 540 can!

you will notice crocodile clips for battery clips. Don’t worry new leads have been ordered! God knows what I was thinking! A old futuba white servo for good measure and we should be nearly there!
I am missing the servo mounts though so will have to have a bit of a scout about for those!

one thing I have come up against though. The battery tray size! I had a lipo. It doesn’t fit! And the first gold lipo has well.... seen better days ha!

one for the bin!
but I was surprised to find this didn’t fit!

a quick eBay visit and came across a turnigy battery. £12. It arrived. It certainly fits that’s for sure. But I’m also worried I’m going to get about 12 seconds of run time! All I want is 20 minutes or so! Fingers crossed! Or can anyone make any recommendations? Without having to chop the car up?

so that’s where we’re kind of up to! I keep reading about the 3rd link mod for the rear so may look into this? But again people say you have to chop a section out the axle housing? Did spot this on google but I’m not sure how he’s fixed the piece on top!

hope it hasn’t bored everyone to death reading!

Not much of a update.
needed a sensor cable, so ordered a 100mm thinking that would do the job. What I should have done is checked<_<

it’s probably a tad short! So il need either a longer one or a reposition of the esc, and hope it reaches!

anyone got a spare ha!

The hornets first maiden voyage.
It’s fast. Dare I say almost to fast! Hilarious to watch but I’ve already had a few close calls with my ankles and other firm non moveable objects.
I’ve got a feeling the tyres won’t last very long!
does anyone know of perhaps a semi slick on road tyre? Sounds daft I know! But these won’t last very long I fear!

will also be looking at the rear hop it does under throttle and brake. Not a massive concern but if I can stop it, it might help Actually being able to drive the thing.

Otherwise though. Smiles all round.

The 1.75 Brat wheels and tires will fit and are better suited for road use.

That’s a great help! Is that front and rear?

It’s got quite a large turning circle put it that way haha! Need to find a proper place to try and run it. It’s been to wet here so the grass is to long. And most of the gravel areas are mostly massive chunks of gravel it just bounces!
the hunt continues!

Yeah have this prob with my brushless 3s neo scorcher

too many vids on YouTube with big empty car parks - can’t find any ha

JJ

Out of interest how do you find your neo scorcher? I was looking at maybe another little model to build! They look good! Was either that or a mad bull as they seem pretty bullet proof with a bit more clearance!

So the lockdown has freed a bit of time up. The hornet never came with servo mounts. I’ve bodged what I can in. But in reality. There no good!
does anyone happen to know if I can get the servo mounts from somewhere?!?! Might help my dodgy turning circle out!
thank you!

The mounts just the screw from the bottom rectangle type?
