German police eat spicy sausages!!!!

Recommended Posts

Here is a start to my latest build. The car will be almost stock apart from Sport Tuned motor running a 17T pinion. The look of it however will not be box art.  As much as I get the history to this acual car I just cant get the colours. I love orange and black but this doesnt work for me. So one night trolling through the WWW I came across this

Image result for alerte cobra porsche cayenne

Having already done a Police Jeep I had a spare set of flashing lights and I remembered from when I was looking for stickers for the Jeep that Screenprint Digital did a set of german police stickers. Not only that but Park Green PS paint is also almost an exact match:D. I dont think this car actually is used by the German police, this is from a TV series called "Alerte Cobra" There are several forms to German Polizei vehicles. Some are as the picture whereas others are white with all green doors as well as the bonnet and tailgate. Only time will tell. So we have a DF-01 chassis as the basis for this build. I will take pictures along the way but only really at key stages, not every nut and bolt.

In order to complete the build you need this lot

I have already done a little prep work. As you will notice the wheels are now silver not orange.

More to follow

Cool, I like a non-boxart build with a theme.

I was going to ask if you had any use for the little snorkel these came with, then looked at the images and they appear to fix to the bonnet in a really peculiar way!

Thanks, I'm afraid I'm not good with box art. I dont think I've got a single model thats box art and or altered in some way. If there were more hardbodies around at a sensible price I think I would do even more!! As for the snorkel I might use it? Not sure yet. If I dont your welcome to it. The main problem as its a lexan body is how cover the holes as there are no stickers where the snorkle sits. I know some UK 4x4 police vehicles have them and as its not truly a scale model more of a "what if" I think I'll get away with it.

If you see it finished without it remind me and you can have it.

I'm surprised that is pre-drilled already, presumably the wingmirror holes were too? Tamiya is strange with what it decides to pre-drill and what not to. I think it may have something to do with the kits availability as an XB model, as this would speed up production of those models and avoid issues with accuracy for the folk in the factory building them.

I could of course be talking from my bumhole, it wouldn't be the first time.

"Alert Cobra" or "Alarm für Cobra 11 - die Autobahnpolizei" as it's named in German, is a rather cheesy and very unrealistic TV series, but they tend to use interesting cars, like in the case of the Cayenne. I don't know if the real German police has any Porsche Cayenne, but I wouldn't exclude the possibility. After all, they've had Porsche 911's and 914's.

And even if Cayennes shouldn't exist as genuine police cars, it's not far off. The local fire department close to where I work, had (possibly still has) a Cayenne "fire chief" car. I too have a Tamiya Cayenne body for which I haven't had any plans. Maybe red with flashing blue lights would be cool? :P

All sorts of police forces seem to use them . US, UK, Italian and I think German in a different scheme. I like the service vehicles as the colours are interesting. I have a custom lift Amarok  that is going to have a Truckman style back and a mountain rescue theme. Again courtesy of screenprint digital and as for my T3-01?

Yes everything is pre drilled including the Ariel hole. The XB theory makes some sense though

Had a couple of hours spare this afternoon so did front and rear gearboxes. Very simple build very Tamiya. Fixed them to tub just to run the motor up and spread what little grease I used

Yes I saw this whilst browsing, the green colourway just appealed + I knew I could get stickers in the right colour. If they'd come from MCI Nat would have changed the colour, not sure screenprint do that kind of thing? What kind of police are these Bundespolizei . Are they different from the green ones?

The Bundespolizei is subject to the government of Germany.  They are the railway police, and beside other functions they are also responsible for frontier-defence. Normal police is subject to the single federal states. Up to the year 2000 the police cars were green and white. After that green and silver and now silver and blue, like the Cayenne above. Some german police cars also have fluorescent yellow stickers on it.

Have basically finnished the chassis build. Electrics are all done. Not sure if Ill sit them just in the tub or up on the tray?. have decided to go with the Silver car with the green stripe down the side, especailly as Ive just noticed the stickers have the silve/green checker edging. My decision now is do I take the easy route and blast the shell with silver (for those of you that don't know the model the window stickers are the black out type) or do I mask the windscreen and front sides then cut out the shading to reveal clear glass. I dont mind the rear being black as Police vehicles often have blacked out rear cabins. We'll see what happens once I've cut the body?

Have to say I love the chassis. very simple and strong looking. Same as Manta Ray I believe? Now its all together its quite a big beast. Was going to go with Magnets for mounts but I'm having second thoughts. There fine for queens and crawlers but for bashers like mine I'll go back to posts and clips. Will try to shorten as much as possible and even paint to disguise them

*Just realised the B and C pillars need to have the stickers cut away to reveal silver colour not the black of the sticker.*

Got the body sprayed. Looking good, now to my favourite job (not) the stickers. All the Cayenne ones ie Tamiya are precut, the police ones are not. The hardest bit I think will be getting the green side stripe straight. Watch this space.

Did the green stripes + a few bits more. Its getting there though I had to stop as i was on a roll and didnt want to make a **** up:( I am particularily please with the green colour match. The bonnet and tailgate are sprayed Park Green whereas the stipes are stickers

I have to cut some black vinyl to cover rge transsiberia and Cayenne in orange on the sun strip. The side windows will have clear fronts but the rear windows and screen will be left black. Have a choice of flashing lights one more modern than the other so will have a play around

Looking pretty good. Also like the license plate D TM. Well done.

If you are going to paint the light bar you can also change the red glas to a blue one if you have. German police only use blue flashing lights.

The red light was a mistake of the EBay seller. Was supposed to be 2 blues!. I have another set on my Wrangler which is all blue so will swap them over. The licence plate came with the police sticker set. They are really good. All precut as well!
