BLACK CLOD back to the future. Might as well throw in some Bullhead too.

Recommended Posts

The last time I did an entire clod was more than 30 years ago. Fast forward to 2020, I find myself working on a few :

Not impressed with the finish of the body that came with the kit. Decided to paint it. As usual, impatient me dumped 2 cans in 1 session. Now waiting for the paint to cure so that I can sand out the imperfections a bit then another coat to finish off. This first one is fairly stock. Tires will be changed out for original.

Next build is in progress still using stock chassis but will sport 10.5t with 120A escs. Dual shorty packs but need custom CF bits to hold the batteries. Unfortunately, my usual guy is running low on CF stock. Let's see how.

Good therapy for me since oil price crashing again...

While waiting on the body, cleaned up the chrome body that has been neglected for years and slapped some MCI stickers on. Some apparent corrosion but still looks nice.

Second kit. No more central servo mounted steering. Instead, servo on bumper.

Nice trucks. Your paint booth looks similar to mine. Yours seems larger, it must be the "deluxe model"

GTodd, it's Gmade zero 103mm ones. Can be bought from www.Junfac.com in Korea.

Hang on, let me go buy a few more sets first. RCmart out of stock for red. Guess many people building black clods.

What do you think Joeling, would these G-Made G-Transitions also work with a Clod Buster?:

http://www.gmade.net/g-transition-shock-red-90mm-4-for-110-crawler-truck/

They are 107mm tall when made Sprung setup.

I'm planning to install 4 of these and leave 4 original pogo sticks...

I like the use of selected decals!  Might need to borrow the idea.

Apologies for the late reply. These are from a guy in Canada who advertised his wares on FB in one of the Clod buster groups. PM me your email & I will forward it to him if you are interested. These are 3D printed.

Some update on the second unit. Found my Parma Clod body painted professionally for me many years ago. 10.5t BL + 120A esc but with NimH packs. CF plates cater for lower CG shorty LiPo packs. As one gets older, start gravitating towards NiMh packs. Not easy to find loose cells and battery links anymore.

Ghetto battery mount while waiting CF bits of a different design

IMG-8122_zpsn634ojrh.jpg

Unable to change motor direction despite having the programming option to do so.

This SkyRC one works. Unfortunately, double the price of the Hobbywing.

P.S. if anyone can recommend an esc with reverse motor direction that is at least 80A rated for less than USD 50 please let me know. Much appreciated.

Painting took a bit of effort. 2 cans of clear to achieve this effect. Still patchy in some areas but that's the limit of my painting skill (or the lack of).

This unit #1 spots the metallic black + ckear coat paint. Unit#2 will spot matt black finish.

Meanwhile, I am also working on this :

Matt black body done but I am not quite happy. Matt finish really highlights any slight blemish / imperfections / screwups with glaring clarity. Note to self - in future avoid matt clear finish.

Started painting Sunday. Primer on then left it for a day. Monday top coat but impatient me managed to overspray a couple of places resulting in some sagging. Left it overnight sanded down the oversprayed bits. Final coat this morning to cover up the mistakes. Left it in the sun after touch dry for the whole afternoon.

Near midnight and stickers have been applied. Next step will be final clear coat then the chrome bits can be installed.
