The Good Ole Boomer

Recommended Posts

I recently acquired this original 1987 Tamiya Boomerang, and while I was never a fan of the Hotshot family of cars, I couldn’t pass this deal up.

So I decided to put my little spin on it.....

This will be a runner, so no full on restoration, rather clean up and rebuild, whatever is broken will be replaced or upgraded,

Hey mate, I'll be following this one. Just picked up an original yesterday also. I've done a check list of parts needed so the hint is on. So far to get it running it needs the battery cover, rear wheels and one of the factory front shock mounts.

I’m converting mine into a dual shock, and ball racing the whole thing, parts are on hand to start the rebuild, except for the new aluminum shocks👍

I used Bigwig front towers and arms to twin shock my Boomerang. Worked really well

Never understood why people convert these to dual shocks, I thought the monoshock design was kind of what made a Boomerang a Boomerang?

But what do I know.

I remember building one of these when they were re-released originally, for display at the shop. I thought it was pretty cool, but trimming the body and mounting the tyres I recall being tricky (tyres seemed really stiff?)

Got a bit done on the Good Ole Boomer:

Dyed the wheels black and added some scale hardware, painted the letters, added some spotlights, raised the wing a bit to make it look different, and mounted it the opposite way.....

Still awaiting my 3ARacing shocks.👍
