Hi everyone,

I’m a bit thick when it comes to different plastics and the correct paint. I know a clear body needs a PS paint and a Kamtec banger needs a TS paint but that’s really about it.

So question, wheels, petrol cans etc on a Holiday Buggy. What plastics are they and what paint do I use? If the answer comes back say, acrylic, is that PS, TS, automotive car paint or what?
I don’t know why but all the variables just seem to baffle me and I can never seem to get it.

Any help appreciated.

For hard opaque model kit style plastics just use automotive paint. Make sure to wash the parts in detergent and water to clean the grease off and then paint with primer.

The wheels on the holiday buggy might be a bit tricky as they are quite flexible and paint will likely crack and flake off. The white ones can be dyed though using clothes dye and simmering in a pan of hot water.

All the little white parts of a Holiday Buggy are styrene. You can use regular model paints (Tamiya, Testors, Humbrol, etc) to paint them, brush or spray.

The Holiday Buggy body is polyethylene, and it doesn't take paint well. Some people have done it, but realistically, you're stuck with blue or red.

Thanks guys that helps a lot.

One more though. Even thought the wheels will flex, I really don’t like the yellow. What kind of paint would they need?

I would be more inclined to buy a new set of wheels that you prefer. The tamiya star discs are a bit of an odd size and there isnt a great deal of tyre choice.

You might only be able to dye them black if they are moulded in yellow but thats probably about it. I cant really think of any paint that would work - i have a sand rover that came with the same wheels and it was a mission trying to get the tyres on. I think most of the paint would come of during that process.
