Spray Painting Mask

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I think I hurt my lungs last time I spray painted PS paints a week ago.

I now want to buy a a decent spray painting mask, can anyone provide a good suggestion for a good quality mask, but also explain why it’s a good suggestion? (I’d also like to understand the science/medical side of this a bit better, if anyone is informed to speak on this)

Thanks guys much appreciated.

First good luck finding them.for a decent price with this current pandemic.

Something like a Dräger x-plore 3300 works nicely. Replaceable filters.

I found this a useful thread when I was concerned about the same.

I bought a JSP Force 8 as a result. A bit hard to get hold of at the moment!

And you need to check that you are buying the correct filter. I have seen on some sites the basic P3 filter that typically comes with the mask being listed as OK for aerosols

https://evaq8.co.uk/jsp-force-8-press-to-check-replacement-twin-filters-p3.html

but you can see from the JSP product listing that the basic filter does not deal with vapour compared with the one tagged by @Nitomor in the linked thread.

 http://docs.jsp.co.uk/MD-FORCE8_COMPATIBLE_TWIN_CARTRIDGE_FILTERS_RANGE.pdf

The Force 8 mask also comes in two sizes. Can’t remember which I bought now but it is a snug fit!!! As well as straps there is a ‘crown’ ring to help fit the mask.

Thanks for the replies all, much appreciated. So the Tamiya paint cans  produce aerosols (and other "gases"?), and these are classed as an 'Inorgnaic Vapour'? Sorry if I'm, misunderstanding. It's quite hard to follow all this terminology!

I understand this mask will be suitable: Full Face Gas Mask for 3M 6800 -  but I need to confirm what the correct filter type is?

P3 is just a fine particle/dust filter.

For spray solvent gasses you need a combined filter like abekp3 or a2b2p3.

Never got to comparing or asking what exactly is in the tamiya cans.
