Recommended Posts

I have always believed the 959 Porsche Paris Dakar car was the first to have working head lights but I don't know for sure, then started wondering?

I would have thought the Toyota Hilux was the 1st?

@SuperChamp82 What’s was the 1st Tamiya model to have working lamps?

The lights were not included with the HiLux - you had to buy them separately but I always thought they were included with the 959 ?

Or maybe not ?

I’m pretty sure you are right with this.

Just checked my 959 manual and the headlights were part of the kit.

Seem to recall there was an option set to purchase separately to make the headlights flash.

@Tamiyabigstuff is spot on re the 959 being the first to include head lights in a kit - with a flasher unit available as a hop up

@Grumpy pants is also right re the Hi Lux being the first to have a head light option

You had to buy old Tamiya ‘grain of rice’ bulbs separately - they were in vintage red vacuum sealed packs for 2 back then - and wire a mini loom to the r/c battery yourself
