Hi,

I am building a shelf queen SRB and i was wondering whether you guys:

1.Fill the shocks with oil?

2.Use silicone sealant on gearbox etc?

3.Oil the gears?

4.Oil the bearings?

5.Apply threadlock?

Thanks for any replies,i need to find the best way for my shelf queen srb to be kept!

Oh and by the way please no people saying stuff like don't put it on the shelf run it etc, since its going to be a shelf queen.Sorry to sound a pain,

Pete.

For the shelf I did as follows, your mileage may vary...

I did not fill the shocks, I did put 1 cm worth of 90 wt oil in them tho to keep them lubed.

I did use silicone on the gearbox but a very thin bead not as much as I would use on a runner.

I did oil the gears with a light machine oil.

I didnt use the bushings I used bearings and they are already oiled so I didnt bother.

I did NOT use thread lock anywhere, nor did I use CA anywhere.

I also soaked some of the rubber parts in baby oil for 2 hours to soften them and preserve them while on the shelf. I dont know if this prolongs them at all but it did soften them a little.

I filled my SC shock with oil cause I like to see it in the bottle, but now it's harder to see cause it all soaked into the wood shelf that the car sits on[:(]

I used BB's so no oil needed there, put some grease on gears cause sometimes I pick the car up and spin them tires[:D]

Did not use any silicone or Locktite.

If you plan to keep it forever on the shelf better keep it dry and not use any of above, as it looks cleaner like that and fluids don't run or react with the plastic or rubber parts.

Cheers

I agree with DJTheo.

If you have bad luck, the O-rings or other parts react with the oil, silicon or other stuff.

No oil, no silicon, NO CA!!!! (never glue the tires), no sealant, no switch lube, no tread lock!!!!

The brass soacks up the oil and become darker. Thats why old SRB shocks do have dark eyelets.
