$800-$850???.............the seller's having a laugh. Just another bloke that thinks its ultra-rare cos its NIB and got a Chevy grill and tailgate perhaps [:o)][:o)]

I've got an original NIB Clod kit and cost me $150 plus shipping 3 years ago. No doubt that absolutely perfect, mint, A1..call them want you will..examples are likely to be kept until the collector checks out or loses interest but there are still loads out there and they haven't appreciated that much in the last 3 years.

Hold on to your hard earned cash and bide your time is my advice.

nib clod market value is between $200-300 currently, all depends on the auction and time of year,id expect to pay on avg $250,a sealed kit could fetch 300

Latest is that he could let it go for about 300$

Irritating that he tries to fool people that it´s worth almost 3times of it´s actual value, before being a "nice" guy and letting it go for 300$

Perhaps i´ll get a Super Clod and a pair of old Clod stickers, and paint it old Clodbuster style.

LOL - I love this "sealed" thing........Tamiya has NEVER done it - nor do they do it now - it is a local distributor thing! I get concerned that people are sucked in by the "sealed" thing.

In answer to the question yes - no more than 300 for an absolute stunner at the moment......if someone has shrinkwrapped it themselves - then it is worth 301 uSD!![;)]

I also wondered about the whole shrink wrap thing. It's obviously been awhile since I bought my original hornet but I didnt remember it or any of the kits ever shrinked wrapped. So I thought it could be possible for someone to shrink wrap a few bricks or something in the thought that someone may never open it in fear of losing the extra money of it being sealed. Could you imagine.... buying a shrink wrapped ss and actually one day opening it to find a bunch of bricks or something!!! I have seen a few on ebay (not ss but others) and I have thought that it could be a scam.

I bought this "NIB and factory sealed" When received it had about 20 feet of kitchen grade cling-film wrapped around the box!!

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...id=34276&id=424

The kit and box are perfect but the whole sealed thing was false. Many of the NIB kits I have were bought when Beatties in the uK closed down.......not one of them was ever 'Sealed' and therefore the whole sealed thing is suspect as Darryn says.

Got to say that I'm surprised that the clod is in the $250-$300 bracket. It's my personal favourite but build it straight out of the box and its limitations are clear. Hence the reason for the vast range of after-market hop ups etc.

HA HA HA HA!! I get sucked in all the time! Either factory or local distributor. unmarked, untouch, stain free, crease free, rust free staples, and flawless box art all under a 20+ year old seal is PRICELESS!

Well at least we all know those NIB's out there with creases, stains, rusted staples, and all those other flaws were "NOT" from the factory. Or should I say local distributor.[;)]

Plus knowing people that work for an airport is great because those x-ray machines don't lie! That way I can distinguish those sealed NIB's with bricks from the sealed NIB's with part trees and blister packs.

Some collectors take collecting to the "extreme". What a rush![:P]

really I thought tamiya did do that shoot I got my lunch boxes at tower all sealed...maybe its a u.S. thang when being shipped here from over seas they seal it in box just incase water gets on them? I dont know...

Posted

Yes, Tamiya Japan seals them and puts them on water in Shuzoka harbour and they float to their distribuours [:P], sorry but the image was too funny... [:D]

As it has been written several times in the past, local distributors seal them like MRC in the past or TamiyaUSA now, never TamiyaHQ (Japan).

Yeah, thats a great price for a NIB Clod..

Did the first NIB Clods with the Chevy Badge body kit come with the early "black" speed control and the old original black endbell version 540S motors?

Another thing I noticed besides the "Chevy Badge" on the grille/tailgate body kits was "CHEVROLET" along the truck bed stickers on the old original. The later version NIB Clods came without that name marking too.

all i know is jay always gets sucked into buying sealed kits, jay wouldnt you want a nice stained creased tampered with kit WITHOUT THE SEAL lol,new topic on the tamiya vintage forum jay, check it out

the clod speed controls differ from the standard msc, a little more complex and a fair bit more reliable, as they have to push 2 motors. i'm sure if you tried that with a standard msc it would probably blow up or something [;)]

my chevey badged clods msc has a brown backing, but as i said its design is different from the other msc's of the time. i'm sure all clods have the exact same msc in the box. my NIB clod doesnt have the chevey grill, but the msc is still exactly the same as my old clod.

i think the clod first came with the white endbell motors, and finished up with the black end ones with a sticker on the side of them.

i'm not sure about the superclod, ive never seen inside the box of one [:P]

How much better/reliable are the Super Clod. Did the original Clod had any serious shortcommings that were fixed in the super clod?

Hi akemag

How much better/reliable are the Super Clod? Same

Did the original Clod had any serious shortcommings that were fixed in the super clod? No

Basicly they are both the same except some color/decal/name (plus no Chevy sign) changes. Both had the same weak spots but dont take me wrong. It is a great looking and pretty sturdy truck. [:D]

Actually the Super Clod has an alu reinforcement plate where the suspension links mount on the chassis, which the original didn't, only the Bullhead afaik.
