How Much are ford escort cosworths worth

Recommended Posts

Hi all hope you are all well

I have been looking for a Tamiya ford escort cosworth for a long time I like the tiger stripe and repsol ones. I just wondered what is the going rate for boxed nice examples and whether there was anything I should look out for.

thanks in advance

Hi all I found I found a nice original boxed tiger striped ford escort cosworth it is almost scratch free on the bottom and has all period radio gear. body is not cracked but paint has fallen off and there are no stickers on it but I found some on eBay at £23 but don't know how good they are also the paint has fallen off in a lot of places. but this is as found. I love the artwork on the box and I liked the fact that it has a lot of the bits you don't normally get. Just wondered what you all thought of it and how much you would pay for it as don't know how much they go for boxed with extras.  :)

Difficult to value as @Novamadcars says it worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

If the body is crack free and the paint will come off, I'd say about £50-60 with spoilers and mirrors. Looks like it's painted  with PC so may come off easy🤞

Box if nice £30-40

Manual £15

Chassis looks nice but not that rare

Tyres to replace are expensive

Original decals do appear every now and then but at least £50, never used copy decals so can't vouch for the quality.

1400NP battery could be worth £10

All of this is just my opinions on value and what I would be prepared to pay, others may disagree 😉

Looks pretty good to me and makes a nice restoration project.

I love Cosworths but remember even though it's a Tamiya it'll come with a Cosworth tax!!

Hi

Thank you for the replies I like the real car it looks very nice.

I have had a conisation with jk rc on ebay as I am looking for tyres and I have also found some original tyres and it seems to me that the rims are smaller than the  standard ones so do I have to buy new rims or if I want it to be to self queen standards I have to buy an original set of tyres.

Any advice would be appreciated as I have never owned one of these and don't really know a great deal about the wheels or tyres or how the body can be restored I have only done one polycarbonate body but that was new what do I use to clean the paint off without damaging is brake fluid ok as I have used that on hard shells. Restoring one of these is completely new to me as I usually have a hard shell which if has slight imperfections gets covered over.  I am also going to do this as my rebuild thread or should I make a new thread in the builds section. I hope I take lots of photos for the thread as I am rubbish at taking photos as I get stuck into a project and forget.

The original wheels are smaller than all other touring cars from Tamiya. Very odd but adds to their uniqueness, I believe they are the same size tyres as used on the QD(quick drive) cars, wheels are unique to the escort.

I found they make the car look under wheeled the later Michelin Pilot looked a lot better and a direct fit.

If it's a shelf queen then find some original tyres but not for using not considering how much they cost!.

If the body is painted with tamiya PC then nitro fuel should remove it very easily, if its PS paint then try De-Solv-it graffiti remover. Loads of threads on here about paint removal.

Look forward to seeing some progress 👍

Thank  you svenb that is good advice it is a shame they are smaller as they do look good but I think I will buy the Michelin pilot wheels as you can still get them and also buy a set of treaded radials as I intend to use it but drive it very carefully and sympathetically or buy a cheap beaten shell so I don't wreck the mint shell. I will also fit an ESC I know it is not proper but you have more control over it and also can go a bit slower if needed I am going to keep all of the parts I take off encase I do decide to do it as shelf queen later on.  Also I noticed that on the box the tyres do look like the treaded radials. I did have a look for QD tyres but didn't find any also it is good to standardise so the tyres are easy to find as it might get a lot of use due to the current situation.:)

Hi all the ford escort arrived on Monday and have started stripping the chassis down but turning the rear ball diff it is grumbly are ball biffs supposed to be rough and grumbly when turned? also the shocks act like there is no oil in them as they don't have much resistance also the rubbers at the top have distorted. pictures will be added soon.

I’d Just completely strip everything down, clean and start again.  Get some fresh grease, oil and shock seals.

Did you find OE stickers?  I keep seeing people use replica stickers on Tamiya but they seem to have a weird matte finish and really look nothing like OE.  I’m sure they’re hard to find but be worth holding out I’m sure.

A lot of this hobby so reminds me of vintage watches.  Tamiya is the Seiko of RC.  It’s the same, everyone wants the old Seiko’s from the 70’s and people make replicas of the parts that fade and get ruined but there’s nothing like OE stuff.

Hi all hope you are all keeping safe and well

I have made some progress with the ford escort cosworth this morning I have totally stripped the chassis ready for a good clean taking it apart I noticed all of the parts are in good condition and it seems to have done very little mileage as the gear boxes are very clean inside and also the prop shaft and rear metal gears are hardly worn but they tend to suffer from wear also the pinion is hardly worn. It a shame about the motor mount the hole lug broke off that is the second one that i have had do that but the problem is they snap level with the gear box so a bit awkward to get out but managed it in the end. Also I think it did need some new wheels and tyres the inside side walls have become detached from the tread all the way round and they have gone very misshaped I might restore the wheels dose anyone know what plastic they are made from as I have got some model filler but they need to be styrene plastic to use the filler. The body is in very good condition but dose have a fair few scrapes in the front but doesn't have ant splits or damage. The ball diff was done up that tight I struggled to hold it and undo it at the same time I have taken some photos of were I am at with it. :)
