So my Wraith has eaten it's servo. Says metal gears and most are. The one plastic one is dead. A guy in America does a metal alternative but at £12 I am thinking a new servo might be better.

This truck is used for about 3 miles daily at the moment, bashing most of the way.

What do the hive mind recommend? UK please.

Can you get Promodeler servos in the UK? They are the servo of choice over here for U4. The Savox SA1283SG has five steel gears instead of the usual for, and is super tough. I use a Protek 170T in one crawler, and a Savox SW1210MG in the other, and each has been reliable and powerful enough. We do a lot of very tough crawling out here, and I'm a member of a very large and active group (NTSC), in addition to running the biggest hobby shop in Texas, so I get a lot of feedback and testing opportunities.

Skip the Savox 1231 (blue plastic case). They're ok for most applications, but won't last long in a crawler, especially in a 2.2 U4 rig.

Thanks. They look like they could run on a 1:1 and for that price I should hope so.

Makes the £12 for a metal gear look cheaper than I thought😂

Alturn Ultra high torque AAS780MG are what I use in my monster trucks, clod and TXT-2.

I've had no issues and can be had for about £20.

I beat the case out of an aluminum case Alturn in my Vaterra, which caused the steel gears to strip. I was very happy with the performance, but wasn't satisfied with the longevity for the cost. The pins wallowed out the bores in the case. However, it was immensely powerful while it lasted.

Nobbi, I don't think that there's a tougher application for a servo than a crawler. Unfortunately, it means spending too much on servos to get good performance and longevity. I'll admit that I tend to overspec electronics, because I don't want to replace stuff once I've bought it. My big beef with inexpensive servos is the poor centering ability and low speed. I'm really picky about this stuff, and I spend way too much. My go-to servos for most builds are the Savox 1251 for a low-profile, and a Protek 100SS or 100T for standard size. Excellent performance and reliability, and good warranties, although I've never had to use the warranties.

Kept destroying servos in my RR10, switched to a Savox 1283SG and never looked back.

It is a power hungry servo though, I'm using it with a 8A BEC.

Sold the RR10 and switched the servo to my TRX4, and it is still going strong after 3 years of hard abuse

Oh... well... I found the TRX is way easier on servos than a RR10 or Wraith.

People around here love the PowerHD 20kg servo's in their TRX or SCX10, I destroyed 3 in a month with my RR10

If you're willing to pay the price, Tekin servos are absolutely top of the line. Their centering ability is incomparable, they're lightning fast, and they're programmable with HotWire for total travel (no mechanical stops), speed, etc. Really superb servos, although I'd hesitate to beat something that nice in mud, water, and rocks.

I'm too cheap to try one myself, but some of my friends who comp crawl locally swear by them.

I am a sucker for buy cheap, buy twice. The Wraith needs strength not precision so I might give one of these a try. I will do a vid of what we are driving over and if we do not kill it we will have a winner. If we do kill it then hopefully all this Covid stuff will be over and I will not have time to drive anyway 😂
