Caz12 13 Posted April 18, 2020 Hi first time on, hope all well as can be expected out there, I have just taken a my Escort out of the loft, been up there a few years, had it when was I 14 now 52 and would love to make it good. The battery charges and everything seems ok, the tyres have perished. Tamiya are unable to supply new ones any help please, along with general advice on not using it for a long time. Thanks in advance.
Doc Hollywood 160 Posted April 18, 2020 Hi and welcome to the club I have just bought one to restore i have wanted one for years but i have the same problem with the one i just bought apparently the wheels are slightly smaller than standard touring car wheels so you might have to buy a new set of wheels/tyres and foam inserts if you are doing it as a shelf queen there are some new tyres listed on eBay at £45 but it would be cheaper to buy a new set of wheels/tyres. but i would ask about on here first as someone might have a set they want to get rid of. It is a shame no one dose reproductions like the wild willy ones. Doc
svenb 3735 Posted April 18, 2020 The escort kit 58112 came out in 1993. I think you've aged pretty quickly 😅 Nice to see another escort Cosworth 👍 Tyres are out there but as @Doc Hollywood says expensive £££

Crikey memory is going 🤪 thank you.
No Slack 454 Posted April 18, 2020 I bought the Ford Escort (tiger stripe) new in 1993 and I still have it. The tyres age always so the orginal tyres from 1993 also. Mine looked the same many years ago. I think because no inserts are used and because of age the tyres perish. The size of these tyres is a bit odd. Smaller as normal tyres on Tamiya touring cars. Replacements are very expensive because they are rare. These tyres were only used on one other model form the QD range. My advise is to buy normal sized wheels (OZ model is available) and use rally block tyres or whatever type of tyres you want. My Original wheels are kept apart as collector items. Don't forget to check the motor mount as they have a tendency to split due to aging plastic.
Doc Hollywood 160 Posted April 18, 2020 I haven't received mine yet but cant wait to get stuck in to it thank you for asking I had a tread for tiger stripe decals as mu shell needs paint stripping and also has no stickers also. I had some help and advice from @Problemchild and @svenb and they recommended the MCI decals they put a link in my thread for me they were really helpful it meant a lot They are $24.99+$7 but the white is a bit see through on a dark surface postage or someone might have an original set on here but apparently they do pop up occasionally. I bought the same style of wheels as on the Michelin pilot and bought treaded radials as will be slower wearing on tarmac but would like to have a basher shell so I don't ruin the original nice shell. The wheels cost me £9.99 from 4wheelcircuit on eBay.

Doc Hollywood 160 Posted April 18, 2020 I find brake fluid is good at getting Tamiya paint off and some other kinds of paint or nitro fuel as someone advised me to use it on my shell but you could do a test patch on in a small area to see what attacks it the best but thinners is not a great idea as it could make the shell go milky and also could melt it brake fluid is probably the safest for the body shell but there might be more options and i have never tried nitro fuel before so don't know. jjp_0121 11 Posted April 19, 2020 I'll join the cossie club 😆.. more pictures please caz12?.. I have a used TA02 repsol, although the bodyshell is fairly good, it has had the front splitter trimmed and is painted in repsol style but red and gold 🤢.. I'm about to start building my chassis up after recently getting back into the hobby, I have 4 of the escort wheels also lacking tyres. There is a seller on ebay with a variety of tamiya escort decal sets, even tiger stripes in orange.

topforcein 1764 Posted April 19, 2020 i seem to remember in a cossie club also you could always go for a alternative tyre and wheel if you don't want to pay silly money for nos tyres i would take apart the gearboxs and clean and re-grease replace the shock oil and also replace the battery also check around the c hubs and the both gearboxs for cracks by the screw holes if you have ball races removed and see if they still run free and if so soak in wd-40 for a while to lubricate them oh and a very warm welcome to the club
