Ford Escort RS Cosworth

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

loving Cossie Club we need more pics please!

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone the advice has been amazing.

Great to know what needs a service.

I have ordered the set of tryes from eBay expensive but I thought too good to miss.
I will keep my eyes peeled for a new set of decals and then start to remove the existing paint and stickers.

I still have the cockpit and mirrors unpainted in the box, where is the best source for paint guys and do the references in the manual still work for the original colours.

Sorry the other question, is it with upgrading the motor from the original?

Nice👍

The colours are still relevant now ps1 for the body and ts26 + ts15 for spoiler, mirrors ts26 +x18.

If you've bought the original 58112 tyres to use then only use on soft carpet😅

I'd get the later wheels and rally blocks for running and leave the special tyres for shelf duty.

Here is my Ford Escort Cosworth. The shell is far from mint as it was used for bashing in it's day. I remeber the decals were very difficult because of the pattern. Still like this body. The later Cosworth had the oval grille which I din't like.

Loving your find doc, wish when I got my TA02 escort it came boxed with the cockpit, I got the instructions so that's something haha.. I would love to get my hands on a new tamiya escort shell!! But I do have put away an old Parma pse ford escort bodyshell, which does have an oval shape grill, but I got it to make a replica of my very own 1996 ford escort 1.8si in rs2000 factory aubergine paint.. wanted to paint it dark metallic aubergine but was too scared to paint it as I wanted to use an exact colour match to the real paintwork.. what's your plans for your resto escort that is soon to be delivered doc?

Not my shell but the same as what I have below

Thank you it is a shame when they are not boxed and don't have the cockpit as it makes them look so much better than just a hollow sell. I have bought a lot of cars without box and manual as they have been cheap but I do always prefer boxed. I do like the fact that you tried to replicate you very own escort I know how hard it is to get the correct colour as I have got a 1/10 range rover classic 2 door body and I am looking for the right blue to do that. My plans for the escort resto is to do it with the standard box art shell and paint/fit the cockpit. I am going to strip the chassis right down then clean and inspect every part then ball race it and grease it and carefully put it back together also i have bought a mew set of wheels and tyres for it as I want to use it but only occasionally. I have decided to put a ESC in it for slower speeds and better control but all original parts will be kept in the box.

Good luck with your project mate, I am very similar as don’t want to use mine very much,  Doc what’s a ESC if you don’t mind me asking, love the colour matching guys 😁

I agree doc it is a shame, and definitely looks better with a cockpit, thanks pal, I did a fair amount of research into using car spray paint but didn't risk it, and couldn't find a polycarbonate match. I love the old range rovers especially 2 door versions! To be honest, I asked what your plans are and realised it was a stupid question. I stripped my TA02 completely, bought some new parts and then life took over.. what grease do you use or plan to use on the resto?

Caz12 its an electronic speed controller :]

Thanks guys:) you can still get the cockpit from tonystamiya parts on eBay. I find that the polycarbonate paint is a bit limited in colours. It wasn't a stupid question as I could have said I were going to paint it pink and do lots of mods to the chassis LOL. I did the same thing with a sand scorcher. The grease I use is spot on grease it comes in a big white tube and is plastic/rubber safe it is on eBay at £5.99 for 100grams of grease enough to do at leased 5 cars or more. I use it for all of my servicing and also on my rebuilds it is about the right consistency to do anything with it also I use a brush to apply a nice even coverage on the shock pistons and also the long screws for the suspension basically anything that moves.

Have you checked https://landlmodels.co.uk/ for a Cosworth replacement body?  They also have MCI decals.

Shame that 95% of the stuff on their website is sold out as there are a couple of bodies I wouldnt mind. I'm wondering if they are an importer / distributor of TBG bodies hence the link with the MCI decals (so if theyre not moulding the bodies themselves that may be why so much is out of stock)

Anyone own one? If so whats the quality like?

And that poxy pop up on their website  - I dont need telling every 30 seconds that someone in stockport bought some wheels 36 minutes ago or similar

I haven't seen one of their bodyshells in real but on TC there are several Metro 6R4's. I believe they make shells in badges. Create an "in stock" message and you know when they are available again.

What I remember is that owner made some bodyshell in the past for the company Controllfreax. (Metro and the RS200). Long ago there was and article on The Racer website: https://www.thercracer.com/2010/05/q-tell-us-about-yourself-my-name-is-and.html

Are the genuine MCI decals on that website probably a stupid question I have managed to get the paint to spray the body shell also it arrived today so I will post some picks later also the person who did the body left the overspray cover on the outside of the shell and then put the stickers over it. That pop up is very annoying I agree with everyone on that it is unnecessary.

the oils in the box may be ok give it a try but if not try the link. but do a rebuild and check the seals dont leak or have perished
