Was going to paint this, then remembered I had an old Beano annual in the car and wondered if I could use watered down PVA glue to stick it to the lunchbox body.

1st one went well, got some of them too wet and they wrinkled a bit but will be fine for a runner for my boys.

Not finished yet.

Going to put Billy whiz on the roof I think.

Does anyone know if I can lacquer over PVA glue??

Light coat to seal , then should be ok with further light coats as long as the laquer isn't cellulose

Essex boys

It's a Scottish comic, not sure how widespread it was. Or perhaps you mean something else entirely which was often described as Billy whiz sometime in the 90's.

I think I might need Google.

In the film Essex boys with Sean Bean , there is a character they called 'Billy Whiz' - he is their 'wheel man'  . As an Essex boy , I can't help but like Billy Whiz for some reason ( Film at 14mins 10 secs )

Billy Whizz is a fictional character featured in the British comic The Beano, first appearing in issue 1139, dated 16 May 1964, when it replaced The Country Cuzzins. Billy, the title character, is a boy who can run extraordinarily fast. His speed often causes chaos yet at the same time his ability can prove useful.

I'm of the age where BW was one of the things I liked about the Beano , and when the EB's film came out with it , it struck a chord . Great LB theme too WDS

Billy Wizz always makes me think of the interview scene in Trainspotting.

Yep, I remember the Beano comics. I always felt hungry after seeing Desperate Dan stuffing his face with another pie though.

Desperate Dan was in the Dandy. He actually has a massive statue in Dundee.

I remember Beano comics from a long time ago.

Banana Man was also a cartoon on ABC television here.

Bananaman was on TV here for a bit, mid 80's I think?

Classic.

It was only like a short 5 min cartoon that was shown in between other programmes, much like Danger Mouse was.

Not sure if it had a longer run time in the UK?

It was a filler between shows like Inspector Gadget, Astro Boy, Voltron and The Goodies.

On a side note, I remember an interview quite a while back by Graeme Garden I think from memory, who mentioned that he was surprised at the popularity of The Goodies amongst children here in Australia.

Apparently The Goodies was an adult show in the UK, but an edited version was aired in Australia that was targeted for children's viewing. Since then I've always wondered what was edited out..?

I can remember getting the Beano annuals, mind you I think they might have been sent by friends in the UK. As for Bananaman; yep between The Goodies and Dr.Who, or sometime around the 5-7pm timeslots. Great times!

As for the uncut Goodies - the DVD releases were uncut. I think the main difference was that Bill had some rather choice posters on his bit of wall.
