Doc Hollywood 160 Posted April 27, 2020 Hi all hope you are all well and staying safe I have started the strip down on the fords TA01 chassis and I noticed when taking it apart that all of the parts are in very good condition and it looks like it has done very little as the centre prop shaft has hardly got any ware and also the aluminium gears in the back gearbox are not worn to nothing even the pinion is still in great condition. The bottom of the chassis has got minimal scratching to. The ball diff seems grumbly and was done up so tight I struggled to undo it as it so slippery and small in the end I had to put a drive cup on it with a small screwdriver in it and it then unscrewed. I think it needed some new wheels and tyres as the tyre tread has come detached from the side wall all the way round nearly on a couple. I were thinking of restoring the original rims by putting model filler on them but don't know what plastic they are made from as the filler only works with styrene. I have taken photos of were I am at with it so far. The first picture of it is as found on eBay
Doc Hollywood 160 Posted April 27, 2020 Here are some more pictures of the progress so far as usual the motor mount is broken the entire lug fell of and it snapped level with the gearbox case but managed to press down on it with my finger nail and got it out that will get replaced with an anodized blue alloy motor mount or I might have a nice original one some were. I will add some more pictures of the progress when I get some time to do some more to it.
Novamadcars 230 Posted April 27, 2020 I’ve had that with a few of my motor mounts over the years.
Doc Hollywood 160 Posted April 28, 2020 Hi All I decided to start cutting the interior out that I bought for it as the original was not very well cut out so was not up to my standard they are very hard to cut out though this is the first time I have cut one out I used rolled up sandpaper to do the rounded parts and a flat file and then fine sand paper to clean all of the burs so no the edges are all smooth like the factory finish. I haven't cut the part out for the antenna yet as I thought I would carefully drill a hole for it as I don't want massive holes in the interior. I cant spray it either as it is supposed to rain all day but I am hoping to get on with the chassis I have ordered a set of ball race bearings and I got some tyres from @Grumpy pants just awaiting the arrival of as the post is rather slow but I appreciate they are still working because if it wasn't for the post man I wouldn't be able to do the projects I have got. I have got the new wheels I ordered also have got some new green damper dome rubbers too.
Doc Hollywood 160 Posted May 1, 2020 Hi all I have taken some photos of the progress on the chassis I have spent a fair bit of time cleaning most of the chassis parts today I still need to clean all of the screws and pinion and the ball diff but I have made a lot of progress. I always use white spirit to clean all of the chassis parts as it degreases all of the parts really well and then use brake cleaner to clean the awkward bits and to dry some of the parts the first photo is how mucky the parts were and the shoe box is all of the clean parts. I polish all of the parts after this stage as they tend to dry matt the thinners and brake cleaner dose not effect the plastic as I have used it for many years on my rebuild and I must have done at leased 20 rebuilds or more and none have fell to bits. Hope you enjoy the updates and information this is the first time in the builds and I am trying my best to document the build. please wait for the next exciting episode I mean update.
Doc Hollywood 160 Posted May 3, 2020 Hi all I have started the reassembly and built both gearboxes I must say the have come up a lot nicer than I thought they look new but have stopped as the red front uprights had cracks in them so have ordered some new ones today so cant do any more at the mo. All of the parts are the original parts I have not replaced any of the parts except for the ball race bearings and the aluminium motor mount. all of the screws are original the same with all of the plastic parts. As I am now stuck with the chassis I thought I would have a go at restoring the original wheels and I am thinking of getting the original tyres if this all goes to plan which I really hope it dose step1 cleaned the wheel with white spirit after taking the tyre off. step2 I filled all of the burs off around the edge and made it round again also bending the lip back to were it should be and gluing any chunks that had half fallen off back on. I also sanded the middle part down to. step3 check that all of the burs and damage have been cleaned. Step4 use a lot of plasto revel model filler in the effected areas leave about 3 days to properly harden. I don't know whether this is going to work well or not but will keep updating and please don't try this until I know it works unless some one has done it and it did work. Please excuse the multi coloured effect I will be painting the wheels white to freshen them up as they are a bit yellowy. Doc

Doc Hollywood 160 Posted May 4, 2020 Hi Sven Thank you for the compliment it is much appreciated I might need the decals can I ask did you get them from MCI or are they the people in the UK on eBay called RC Decals as were thinking of getting a set for the body shell from them to see if they were any good. I sanded the wheel down as the filler looked to be dry it took less time to harden than I thought but the wheel looks no end better for it but there were still a few chip's so added a bit more in the low spots will add some pictures when I have finished the filler and primed the wheel. many thanks James

Your most welcome to have a set of the wheel decals 👍.

wtcc5 4896 Posted August 11, 2020 Very cool! Even though getting new parts for the chassis is not really difficult, I really enjoy your work to rescue and renew the parts! Love it.
Doc Hollywood 160 Posted August 13, 2020 Hi All I finally got chance to get on the computer long enough to add picks of the progress so far that I managed to do at the weekend on sunday I decided to have a look at the shocks and strip them to clean but the o rings were not very good and some had two red and some had red and black so had to leave them as ordered a new ser of proper red o rings. I decided to get on with the chassis so I soaked the chassis and radio gear tray in hot soapy water and gave it a scrub with an paint brush and it came up better than expected sadly forgot to take a photo of that. Then I had a dig around for a TEU 101bk and tested the radio gear the servo and receiver are the originals I have given them a good clean the servo had sticky glue on it so used white spirit on a rag on that as it gets rid of glue quite well. I have fitted the radio gear properly. The o rings have come so will get on with the shocks this weekend and fit the gearboxes.
