So, I decided on building my first Clod.
Got the bearings, servo and metal anti rotation bracket on the way, still need to order some steel pinions which seem to be out of stock everywhere close by.

I order most of my Tamiya stuff at Tamico, sadly both the Super Clod Buster and the Black Edition went out of stock the day I wanted to order mine...
They still have the Bullhead, and as far as I know they are the same, but I am no fan of the Bullhead body myself.

While waiting on parts to be delivered and for the kits to get back in stock I have been thinking out how I want my build, fun to do, not so fun when calculating the cost
I will first build it mainly stock with bearings and the metal anti rotation bracket and upgrade from there.
I really like the look of 4ws, so 2 servo's on the axles will probably be the next step, already looking for a nice mount.
Not sure if the stock ESC can handle 2 servo's, so I will probably upgrade to a HobbyWing 880 at the same time.

Some yellow JConcepts wheels and golden years tires to fit in with the colour scheme I want.
Seen a Clod with a sound unit in it, always wanted to put one on my crawler, but have no room for it, so I will use the Clod for this now :D

As I don't want to wreck the stock body, what other bodies fit?
Only Clod specific, or will bodies for something like a Traxxas Stampede or Revo fit as well?

Any other recommended parts I can look into?
Shocks, axles, links, gears?

Got hold of the last Super Clod Buster from a local shop.
Hope to get it next saturday and start building .

My anti rotation bracket order got cancelled, the seller didn't want to ship to NL, so I need to find another set.
Also need to find a good receiver for my FrSky TX, but everything in the local shops is out of stock and expected to be back in stock somewhere in June, so I'll probably order that through banggood or aliexpress.

You can check the cheap options here: https://www.jconcepts.net/shop/1982-gmc-k2500-traxxas-stampede-tamiya-clod-buster-body

Other than that, your truck needs nothing else to run hard. You'll probably read a ton of... about high torque servos for steering, but if you tighten hard the front servo saver or use a solid bracket instead of it, your truck is going to steer (and run) super nice with ANY servo, any time, any place. :)

I hope you'll share some pictures of the Clod Buster later :y:

I received the kit last friday and started working on it yesterday.

20200523_191916.jpg.e12d69c18c0804178eff7b1d8519fa76.jpg

Done the basic steps for the chassis and started on the axles.
The diff step took me way longer than expected, thought I was missing 2 of the pins holding the spider gears in place, but they were stuck inside the spacers which are used for the motor screws, took me a while to find that out

But man is it huge when you are used to  "regular" 1/10 cars like onroads, buggies and crawlers

Had some time to finish up the chassis.
The metal axle braces were a pain to mount, but got them on in the end.

Took it for a test run in the living room, and what a fun to drive a Clod!
Steering needs some work, but it works.
I also had some ideas for the body but not made a decision yet.

Yeah, only had a short test run, but already the most fun car to drive in my collection!

Decided to go with a nice yellow body, been a bit busy lately and hope to put on the first coats of primer somewhere this week.

What soundmodule is that?

I would love to install Sound, a Horn or Both in to my Clod.

@Yonzariq

It's always a pleasure to help out.

It's only a cheap from eBay.

£20 comes with 2 speakers.

Has different engine sounds and volume control.

Just checked, it's Goolrc

Went for a nice clean look!

Also had it's first test runs around the neighborhood, but it had a lot of issues with steering.

Steering one side is fine, but zero to none steering to the other side.
Been trying a lot with no results, with all wheels off the ground it steers fine both ways.
Apart from that, it is a lot of fun, already got some dents in the rear bumper from wheelies

So I ordered the first custom parts, a pair of Arch Fabrication servo mount bumpers

I think dual Servo steering is the only Way to make a Clod a propper steering vehicle. It also helps with the Suspension, because the standard Steering permits diving in the Front and the Back.

The Yellow is a good choice, it do not suite the Bumpercolor, but you will get a different Bumper anyway.

The back of the Body gets scratched by Wheelies,, that is a fact and i did not find any suitable decent Wheeliebar that is hidden by the Body itself. But there are wheeliebars that are mount to the Axle. Sadly it can`t be mount with my custom Bumper...

You could always add a thin steel skid plate under the rear bumper to protect it. Stick it on with silicon and then it can be removed at some point in the future and no need to drill holes in anything.

Received the Arch Fabrication servo mount bumpers last weekend, now I need to find the time to install them.

But I forgot to order a set of servo savers/arms, which ones are recommended when running a dual servo setup?

Got the anti rotation brackets and arch fab bumpers mounted.

Also installed some 3d printed lockers for the rear steering and cleaned up the wiring, only to find out the RX I used is defective.

On the bench and smooth surfaces it works fine, on rough surfaces it shuts itself down and won't turn back on

Hi @Yonzariq the Clod’s coming along nicely, what are the yellow cross-shaped bits in the hub carrier for?

Hi @J@mes those are 3d prints to lock the rear steering.

They work really great.

I replaced the RX, but the issue persists, I probably need a BEC for the servo, going to install one soon.

SAHWEET!!! This is definitely bringing back the Clod bug for me. I miss mine... Hope to have another by next year.

LOVE those Bumper/Servo Mounts!! Something like those were not available when I had mine, in 1990. 😲  Anyone who has ever driven a Clod for more than a minute - KNOWS that the stock Steering setup is completely PANTS!!! 😖
