jongrill 15 Posted May 1, 2020 I have a bone stock rerelease Super Clod that I either want to start modifying or build a custom chassis Clod to compliment the stock one I have. A lot of information on modding them or what is needed for a custom chassis build is scattered among pages on the internet and very confusing! Here are my questions: If I mod the one I own, what are the modifications you would do first and with what parts? If I wanted to build a custom one, where do I start? Crawford Racing seems to be a good site but a lot of the info on there is confusing to me. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted May 1, 2020 I think most people start by applying for more credit cards.. I'm tempted to build a 6x6 one. Lol. I think you need to decide what you want to do with it. Stock clods are great, just add the anti rotation bracket ( without this, there is a danger of reversing the earth's rotation under heavy throttle response), bearings and 2x steel pinion gears. Indestructible, but unstable at anything over 15mph and likely to dent the Earth's gravitational field every time it falls over. So if you want more stability, lengthen and widen it a bit. If you want a high speed basher, buy an Arrma or Traxxas or something, but parts for your clod will still be available when the latest bashers are old news.

I have a high speed basher already so this isn’t that type of project. I’m a builder/tinkerer so this is just a project to well... tinker and improve on the truck. I’ve seen some really cool clod based rigs and I’m looking for some insight on where to start on something like that. Can you explain these anti rotation bars to me? I’ve never heard of them. My truck has upgraded (FastEddy) bearings already and the stock pinions. I’m assuming an upgrade to some Robinson Racing pinions would help! ...I do agree with the credit card though! Mad Ax 9313 Posted May 3, 2020 If you want to build a custom clod then look up Trigger Kings on Youtube. Their channel has info on racing clods and how to set up geometry. This will be useful if you want to make your own TVP chassis or buy an off-the-shelf chassis and set it up yourself. Also clodtalk.com has loads of clod-specific info although it's been around for ages, some of it is out of date or no longer available. Also think about what you want to do. If you want a racing clod, your geometry will be different to that of a crawler or a generic monster. Personally I like the racing clod geo because it's more stable and more fun can be had without it tipping over, but it doesn't have the ground clearance of a crawler or the presence of a monster. wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted May 3, 2020 I think it's part B9?. It's called the anti rotation bracket. Metal ones are available on eBay. It might not be completely true what I said about it reversing the Earth's rotation though,... I think I made that bit up.
