Juhunio 6828 Posted May 11, 2020 Having completed the DF03 build, I've got a few bits left from the spur gear bag. I know the 78T spur is for the DF03, it's only a spare because I used the slipper clutch and its 82T spur But what about the 85T and the smaller, pinion-shaped gear? They're marked as 'not used' in the manual, but does anything use them? Are they useful to anyone, or just for the bin? I also got a random gear bag in a spares job-lot eBay win from Japan. I'm pretty sure it contains: A) 3x 85T spur gear (from 51248, not used in DF03) B 3x smaller pinion shaped gear (from51248, not used in DF03) C) 3x 78T spur gear (from 51248, as used in DF03) There are also two black coloured parts, which I'm pretty sure are the same as (B) and (C) above, but in black. Does anyone know what they are, and if they are of any use? Cheers, Matt

I always presumed the 85t was to give more gear options, although finding smaller 05mod pinions to run a larger seems to be the hard part. The DF03ra gears, give you a 78t / 75t to run either a 28t / 32t pinion.
martinjpayne 273 Posted May 14, 2020 85T spur gear is for the Dark Impact / DF03MS using the optional 23T / 25T pinions (53922). You may also require a replacement gear cover from the Dark Impact 'M Parts' (0115365) to allow for the greater diameter of the 85T spur gear, although this can foul the movement of the suspension turnbuckle. 1

Ok, that all makes sense, thanks. Just checked and the 85T spur gear fits comfortably but snugly into the gear cover It's weird that the manual only references the 78T spur / 25T pinion combo, there are no ratio tables anywhere and the 85T spur is just marked as 'unused' Just had another look at the Slipper instructions, which give you the ratios for its 82T spur, as part of a full table including the 78T and 85T kit spurs across 5 different pinion sizes. Presumably this table would be quite useful for anyone with a DF03 who wanted to play around with gear ratios across the available 05 mod pinion sizes, using the two spur gears in the kit?
Juhunio 6828 Posted May 14, 2020 53922 is the part number for the 23/25T pinions 13505054 is 26T 53923 is 27/29T 51370 is 32T Should be plenty to play with, for the DF03 and Super Astute!
