Hi,only my second post on here so bear with me lol.I got back into tamiya a couple of years ago after over 30 yrs,it was 1987 or 1988 when i got my first buggy. My dad bought my brother a second hand falcon and me a second hand fox.I loved them two buggies.I then shortly after built a hornet and then a blackfoot.Last year i was going to buy a re re wild one to build but i bought a re re hotshot newly built fully ballraced with sport tuned motor and gold wheels from ebay.I am happy with the hotshot but now i want to build one from scratch. Now to my question,i still have the vintage fox, falcon, hornet, and blackfoot in my shed but they would need work to get them going again.Should i pick one and try to restore it or just leave them or buy a re re to build. Thanks in advance for any help.Ally.

For me, I'd take them apart and clean them up but not change any of the details that give them character since you have memories with them. I have most of my cars from my youth. I could restore them to more perfect, boxart standards but then they would lose all the small things that made them "mine". Once gone over, the choice is yours whether to make them shelf queens or perhaps gentle runners. If you want guilt free running and fresh new, plastics, by all means get a rerelease. They are awesome for that.

I'm with Saito2, it's the scratches and dents, the imperfections, that are there, are memories.

There's plenty of re release models out there, to either buy new, or 2nd hand, to fling in a cheap brushless set up in, and go have fun, make new memories.

I'd be giving your old cars a birthday and parking them on the shelf, or give them a gentle run occasionally.

All bar the Falcon have been re-released, so pick one (or all B)) build and run to your hearts content without fear of ruining your originals.

The hornet would be the easiest to restore, but i would like only original parts not re re.

What needs replacing on it?

Have you had a look to see if you can get the parts?

I'd say it's worth having a look. Nothing wrong with a bit of window shopping to see how much it will cost you.

I've just started refurbishing my old nitro and I'm sort of regretting it. The parts I need are coming from Madrid, as it's the only place I could find them. They are taking forever to get here due to the pandemic (I'm guessing).

If you think it would be worth restoring then I'd say go for it, if parts are available.

I will search ebay and see what i can find,if i cant get all the parts i will just clean them up and buy a re re.

Both

get a model to build and then also refurb all the old ones, put bearings in and replace any broken parts

get a cheap Ultrasonic cleaner (I have a James one)

James Products Ultrasonic 7000S Jewellery, Spectacle, CD/DVD, Coins, Personal Care Cleaner With Extended Timer https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00N4XB5YU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_qKVWEbJ7SZEA1

and bring them all back to life

JJ

Thanks,i will try my best to do both.

The motor, msc, rear tyres, battery door, bushings and i would need to strip gearbox.

Are they unservicable/missing?

Can you post up some pics? We all love pics B)

+1 on ultrasonic cleaner.

I can't believe I have spent so many hours manually scrubbing when these things do it for you!

Wish I bought one a long time before I actually did.

When you hit reply you can upload from the text box at the bottom where it says "Drag files here to attach, or choose files...".

I'm guessing you can also hyperlink from Imgur etc...if you wanted.

The only stupid question is the one you don't ask. B)

I'm not entirely over this, but I believe there is a limit on what you can directly upload to the site?

Using a 3rd party image hosting site and linking images is the way to go.

But you can run into issues as per what happened with Photobucket.
